Okay, so my update...I have been beyond exhausted and slept for over twelve hours after that hospital thing! Sorry it took a while...

Firstly, let me say I am such a tough stick, IV wise. It took over twenty times to get a working line in, which they needed for not only medicine and fluids, but for CT dye (I also had to drink two cups of dye which I immediately vomited back up...no luck there!). Twice in my neck and 3543634 times in my arms. They kept blowing. I am so sore...

So my appendix was a little inflammed -- it does not have to come out right at this moment (thank God, I do not want another surgery!!) but they are going to watch it and if I get worse pain, obviously I will be going back and then yeah, probably!

Also, total surprise here, my right ovary is a bit swollen, I have no idea why! I am kind of a little more scared about that one...but I'll be okay.

So they sent me home, because I kind of really wasn't staying there any longer than I had to, I was really excited to go home, haha, with pain meds and anti-nausea medicine, but I am really not wanting to take any pain medicine so that probably will just get filled and held on to...I was in the emergency room for over 24 hours and then slept over 12 when I got home.

I went to Johns Hopkins. It is not the closest ER to us, but since we wanted to be sure it was not that my shunt catheter pulled out of place or anything, because I originally felt like something just all of a sudden in my stomach that felt like a tear after I spent those days cleaning so much (I was lectured on taking it easy. By doctors!) I joked with my mom that I cleaned so hard I burst my appendix. I know the appendix thing isn't funny, but every time I clean like that, I get sick somehow! Usually a cold...this is by far the worst! Anyhow. Hopkins is such a phenomenal hospital. They were not going to stop testing until they were SURE they knew what was causing so much pain. And then they left it up to me when I wanted to go home, when I felt okay pain wise. I am hurting still, kind of bad, but now that I know I am okay and the pain is not worse than it was, just the same, I feel comfortable being home! If I get sudden worsening pain, I will not hesitate to go.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I read them to my mom while in the ER and she said that it seems I have met some good, caring people I can call friends on here...and I do. Each of you are a friend in my book!

I am resting, and doing exactly what they told me to...minus taking pain meds! I am not a fan after having to take them for so long with my PTC...

You cleaned so hard you got sick? WOW.

The doctors have things that aren't pain meds that can relieve your pain. There are drug combos that will knock you out cold. You'll get up to go to the bathroom and drink some water and soup and that's about it. The next day you'll wake up and either take the pills again, or not. I understand, though. I'm off pain meds right now, too, but because of unanswered questions about my kidneys.

Give the cleaning a rest. Rest your body. Maybe your appendix could heal itself and no surgery would be needed? (My naive question)

We are hoping that I do not need surgery! I really do not want to go through that...but then my right ovary has to have further examination and that is no fun...I'm only 25. They said it was swollen and there was something that was not supposed to be there next to it!

What kind of drug combos, if I may ask?

I just read your update and meant to ask you about it in my last message....So glad you are home but sorry you to endure what you did in the ER!....OMG, how scary! Like I said, just pay attention to your bodies signs, I had a feeling you were over doing it!...Silly! Please rest and listen to your doctors.....I'm sure after what you went thru that night you don't want to end up there again anytime soon! Take it easy on yourself....and let others do for you if they are willing.

Oh I will not be overdoing it anytime soon! The house is so clean that now it is just a matter of just picking up after ourselves (my mom, brother and I live here) and it shall stay looking great. I will only keep up on the floors. They can do that rest! And I am not doing the floors until this pain subsides...let us hope it does and I will not have my appendix burst!

Heather, how long will they monitor your appendix and what do they do for the inflammation?

Will you have additional ultrasound on your ovary? I had a swollen ovary once, also young, and they figured it was a smallish cyst that would come and go depending on where I was in my cycle and it would cause pain for a couple of days each month. Eventually it just went away. Hopefully it's something simple :)

Let me know. I'm curious about what they do for an inflamed appendix. I always thought they took it out.
