Hi Debi and welcome. I to have been thru the menopause, earlyish, 42yrs old at the time and it was over very quickly really.

But I to am getting the hot sweats again. They seem to preside the on coming of my hds. That and nausea. They are not back at night time tho, thank God!

I find the best thing to help, is sips of cold water.And, just ride it out.
Have you been able to link them to any thing yet? Like the on set of a bad hd?

A tip if you are getting them back at night time. I have a fan at the foot of my bed, set on low, so when the sweat hits, you just throw back the covers and wait it out. It really helps and means you dont get soaking wet and have to change.

Still, I would mention it to your dr. It could have some thing to do with your thyroid.The IIH seems to mess around with it. It could be a simple thing to fix.I hope!

Hi faith, and welcome aboard(sorry you have to be here) It's funny you should ask this because that is why I am up and on here. Freakin hot flashes are driving me nuts! Have you checked your BP? This IH seems to mess with that too. Hang in there, you have come to the right group! :)

Hot flashes are ABSOLUTELY a side effect of IH. (At least for women). Most likely because IH is linked to some sort of hormonal imbalance. I am 40 years old and definitely have not started menopause yet...at least according to my doctors. And yet, I have horrible hot flashes...even with the shunt. They tend to get worst right before and right after my menstrual cycle. However, I've been known to get them at other odd times as well. It's awful. And it affects my mood too as I get really irritable. Like Cath...I agree that a cold drink helps. But, I have also found that taking Black Cohosh (an herbal supplement) helps too. You can buy it over the counter. It is usually used to help menopausal women with hot flashes....but, it seems to help little old me too!

i'm 25 and have hot flashes, and periods of always feeling really hot.

but i had a Hibernoma, though most of it was removed when i was uh i think 16 ( i can't remember anything today) maybe 15 ish before that i was abnormally hot but i think it was due to me having a hibernoma. i just can't be normal can i?

With all the other lovely symptoms of IH came increased hot flashes for me. I had a hysterectomy at 33 and they are as bad now as before I started hormone replacement therapy. Here is a tip and it seems to worrk pretty well: get a small spray bottle (I rinsed out a small travel size hair spray pump bottle), add 15 drops of geranium essential oil to 2 oz water and keep in your fridge. When you feel the hotflash coming, spray a few pumps on your neck and face. It works! During the summer, I throw it in my purse when I'm going out because they get so bad. They difuse them almost instantly.

Very interesting. I have hot flashes as well. I've been wondering about that...

I've suffered these during my menstrual cycle as well. A true hot flash will go away if you hold your hands under cold water. It really does work. Upon holding your hands under the water, your face will get a surge of heat, then it goes away completely.

I found that if I took an ice cube and just rubbed it on my wrists and and on the back of my neck they went away almost immediately.

Thank you everyone.. I was so sure, but my Neuro kept saying no ..its my change of life...
My Neuro Opt,put me back on Premrin as a trial to see what happens with the optic swelling..but ..it helped the hot flashes a little but not enugh to stay on it ..and of course it did not help the optic swelling.. but it was worth a try and that is what I like about my doc..he is open minded.

I agree with the cold water on pulse points....wrists, back of knees and back of neck.
