Well where to start... I was diagnosed 10 years ago when I was 13 with PTC. It was all from a reaction from a medicine. I was living in Indiana at the time and all the doctors told me all the time was to get Spinal Taps and then keep up with the medicine and take Diamox. I have been in constant pain for the 10 years and recently started being bed bound as of August 10'
I moved out to Raleigh, NC about a year and half ago and started seeing a doctor out here. They were keeping up with the spinal taps and medicines. The doctor about two months ago was like why do you not have a shunt.... are you against them? And I told them no one ever mentioned anything about them. So he got me into a NS and he told me he wants to do a LP shunt.... I have been doing a lot of research for the past two months about shunts and it seems that I read there are a lot of problems with LP shunts compared to VP shunts.
I know everyone is different but I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this. I'm wondering what are your thoughts on them? Have you had a LP shunt and was it successful or have you had both of them and which one is better? Another question would be what is the recovery time for the LP compared to the VP and hospital stays. He said I will be out of the hospital after a day. Do any of your live in the NC area that have had success with a great NS? My surgery right now is scheduled for May 18th.

I have been to Dr. Michael Rosner is Hendersonville NC. He did my Chiari decompression and my VP shunt. I was in the hospital with the shunt for only 2 days. It is a new life. You have new worries and new standard tests every year. Overall, its better that life before a shunt. Dr. rosner was terrific and he is very knowledgable in Chiari and PTC. Good Luck to you....Also, have heard many people complain on here about the LP shunts. read some old discussions and you will see.
