what kind of side effects were you having. Im just wondering cause I have a lot of side effects with it and currently not on it anymore. I have a feeling the neuro will have me on it again in a few weeks.

I have never been on that much Diamox, but the side effects when I first started taking it included a feeling like my heels were having red hot spikes driven through them. If my hands got the least bit cold, they would go totally numb like they weren't even there. I also had stomach cramping, terrible heartburn, ringing in my ears (was louder than the IIH by itself), sort of a general itchiness/dryness over all my skin (no rash), and a crazy vibration from my neck down to my butt on my back, which would occur at random times and last for several minutes.

Symptoms eventually got better after months of taking the Diamox. I cannot say that what I did had anything to do with the lessening of side effects, but I drink a lot of filtered water with organic lemon juice, drink orange juice in the morning, eat a lot of broccoli and baked potatoes, and I try to sleep sitting up (seems to help with the heartburn some). I hope this helps. Like I said, I have never been on that high a dose, so you mainly need to make sure the doctor is doing regular bloodwork to make sure your electrolytes, acidity, and kidneys are in good shape.

I started on 500mg and I had worse headaches, tingling all over, and I felt hot but that wasn't all the time. I also was anxious. I was dropped down to the lowest dose and was still having the side effects but not as bad. the neurologist told me it was most likely caused because with Diamox reconfigures yours system.

I am kind of glad that I found this site. I have been searching around the internet to find out to to get rid of the tingling and numbness of the Diamox. I guess I should up my water intake. And thanks for mentioning the heartburn. I asked my dr if that was one of the side effects and had said he had never heard of it. Gee. I currently take 2000 mg daily.

I was so upset when I told my neuro how bad the diamox made me feel and he said he never heard of my kinds of reactions before. I had bad heartburn, felt tired all the time. stomache was always upset and just plain felt bad from it. I was on 500mg twice a day. the only thing that let me know I wasnt crazy is pretty much everyone on this site complained of feeling bad on diamox. dont do what I did but I got so fed up with feeling sick all the time on top of my ptc symptoms that I just quit taking it. My symptoms, vision losses, heart beat in my ear and headaches lead me to finally give into the shunt surgery. I had mine placed in my spine. there was no way in hell I was letting them put it in my head. My first surgery failed as the tubing came out of place but my second surgery was a success. I have no more headaches, vision is clear and the only time I get the noise in my ear is when I first wake up as your pressure changes from laying to standing but the noise goes away completely. If it helps any or makes you feel any more comfortable the surgery is really not that painful. of course you have some discomfort at first and to tell you the truth I am a big baby and even I was up moving around in no time. I had my second surgery in dec and Im fully back to my every day routine. I was in the hospital for four days but hell I was getting waited on hand and foot lol so that was nice. In my opinion Id do the surgery over and over again before I ever try to choke down one of those nasty diamox again.

Christydove..my neruo said the same thing when I told him that I was having those side effects. he had never heard of anyone having that much problem. So what did they do for the shunt surgery?
