Thankfully I don't get iih headaches, my pressure was high and I have optic nerve swelling. I have high bp, starting to get diabetes

My husband had the bypass done and has lost 75 lbs. He was not required to lose a specific amount of weight but he had to be on an all liquid protein shake diet for 3 weeks prior to surgery, so of course he lost some weight. Recovery was easy and it is a step up plan as far as diet. He had to be on all liquid the first 2.5 weeks, then he could eat blended food, nothing chunky, for a couple weeks, and slowly ease into solid foods. Even his meds had to be crushed, stirred in a little liquid and drank. Yuck!!!! He can eat regular foods now but he gets full quickly. (If you eat fast food, don't plan on being able to eat a whole combo meal, you'll be lucky to eat 75% of the burger, for example, no fries)

My daughter's mother in law had the band done. She is very highly overweight and did not follow Dr orders. She hasn't lost anything! Recently she went in tyo have the band refilled tyo find that her eating habits whilst having the band caused a pocket to form above it. Now she wants to do the bypass but we told her son she will have to follow Dr orders because if she eats like that after surgery, especially before the stomach is healed, it could cause the stitching on the stomach to come loose and could be fatal.

My husband though likes the bypass and is so glad he had it done. I would like to but my BMI was not high enough for insurance to cover it and they would not make exceptions based on health issues, but luckily I only need to lose about 45 more pounds.
