Last Thursday while visiting my PCP I mentioned the difficulties I've been having with insomnia. With the thought that the lack of sleep may be exacerbating my symptoms, my doctor wanted to prescribe Ambien. I had heard some negative things about this drug so I was reluctant to take it. He assured me that it wouldn't hurt to try anything once and if it didn't work we could find something else. So, I tried it.
I took a 10 mg. pill and slept like a baby. I was woken up at 5:30 a.m. by my 13 year old daughter who wanted me to help her with her hair. Groggy and still medicated I could barely function. After some time passed and I had fully awaken, I noticed that I was feeling quite depressed. Within an hour I was crying and telling myself that I was a horrible wife and mother. By 12 noon, I wanted to commit suicide! I knew something was REALLY wrong, so I called my pharmacist. He said that while it's rare, some people have this reaction to Ambien and to stop taking it immediately. I also spoke with my PCP who told me to drink lots of fluid and make sure I had someone to sit with me until the drug was out of my system. It took a full 24 hours, but, finally at 10 p.m. that night, the drug had fully wore off and I'm happy to report I'm doing much better. I read up on the internet that many suicides have occurred due to this medication. So BEWARE!

Yes you should never touch this drug again!
I can tell you that Laurie takes a half of one every time we travel on a plane for a flight over 6 hours. Normally she can not sleep on a plane but after taking that she actually can sleep on her stomach. I will admit that she is a little dopey after she wakes up.
Our last vacation I had to actually take over driving as she was not doing the roundabouts too well at first. By the following day she was fine.
Pretty strong stuff.
But then so is oxycotin...............
Yikes the drigs we take sure can be scary.

I have never tried ambien but have heard bad stuff about it....glad you survived....Paula
