I started acupuncture along with a nutritional program (muscle response testing) had the best week in almost 4 months with the first visit. The next week was not as great but better than I was without it. Oh by the way this is with out any medications as my Dr.'s have stopped everything while we wait for my appt. @ Stanford University. The 3rd appt. was great and I was even able to go to our Ranch 4 1/2 hrs away and @ 2500 ft. elevation. I was unable to change elevation prior to this with out excruciating headache.
I am cautiously optimistic that this will continue to help. others have said they have had some and little relief.

I love acupuncture, massage, chiropractic and have wanted to try yoga. I hear the 'hot yoga' you can lose a ton of weight too-so I have always wanted to try it. For me it eliminated all of my symptoms but the headaches. It worked on my migraines though when I was pregnant. It does make it easier to deal with them though. It is a time and $ issue for me. I have to drive an hour each way in stressful traffic and the treatments are about an hour. So 3 hours at least twice a week was hard for me to handle. We do have chiropractors up here that do acupuncture but it was not worth my time. I like the Chinese Medicine Dr's. Everyone is different though-so I encourage you to give any of them a try as long as they are licensed. Some insurances pay for chiro and acupuncture too. Try and get a Dr that files the insurance for you though. Otherwise you are adding more paperwork to your life.

atwitsendmel- Does altitude affect this? If so- I am moving back to Texas!!! I am not a fan of Utah even though it is beautiful.

I've been doing acupuncture once a week for the past month. It has made a huge difference for me. I'm to the point now where my head starts hurting a lot more right before it's time for my next appointment. My insurance does not cover this at this point, I'm going to see if my Dr. will help me try to get my insurance to cover it under pain management. The acupuncturist I'm seeing is also having me try meditation, I'm trying it but it's really hard!!

Texangirl - Yes altitude takes a toll on IIH. My husband was thinking the higher the altitude the less pressure against our head but yesterday when I was at optho he explained it to him and said our brain swells with the increased altitude and Diamox can help as that is what they give mountain climbers who scale the really high mountains but for some with IIH it makes our head do a up/down yoyo effect with the pressure and that can be just as bad.
