I am waiting to ask my hubby about the biopsy, unfortunately he is at work until 7 or 8 am.
I will post as soon as he gets here.
I do remember him going in for it but can't remember much about it.
My hubby was a 4.+ and he took radiation over the surgery.
Hubby was roughly about 375 lbs. and the docs were all under agreement that he needed to have that because of the weight.
We are two years out now and he is fine. His level is 0,01last checked! Has to go and get blood work done in Feb.
We also found each other again. Took the time for us then.
Just letting you know that things can get better.

I hope that this is not late for you but hubby just got home.
He said that it is a rectal exam with numbing and a probe,
a bit of discomfort but that is a bit all. When the numbing agent wears down there is discomfort there as well.

They take slices of the prostate, just a bit of tissue,nothing too big.
they then send it out to a cancer lab, and the waiting can be worse than the actual test!
Try and find something to take your mind off the wait but I know that it still stays there.
Be strong for your friend.

I had a number that was high a 6 but then I have to see a prostate doctor and he took another test called the free PSA.that came back ok.I try to get lots of stuff off the internet I allways try to be imform.Most all men will get it if they live a very old age.Read all youcan on prostate
cancer.If someday if I have the prostate cancer I would go this way

I was talking with my hubby and he said that he was treated early because of his Dad has Prostate Cancer too.
He is in his late 70's and has had the hormone treatment after having the surgery to remove the cancer.
I would caution your friend to check out all the sites he can to make a decision that is right for him...Most of our information came from the cancer center here in town, and the urologist who was nice about it.
I did my investigation and found that what my hubby had done was necessary.

Thank you all. His biopsy is first week in December but I will keep you posted. His is only 3.something. Do yall think it will be cancer.

My experience told me the number isn't as important as how much it has changed in recent time. I had cancer (diagnosed in June) and my number was about that but had moved 2 points in 2 years.

I asked for pain management when I had my biopsy (anesthesia or local) and my doctor said that wasn't the 'protocol' but I am sure he has never had one. They describe it as a "rubber band" snap. I changed Doctors after the biopsy. There are many good Dr's out there that take patient comfort into consideration. Don't take the standard answer from them if you are not comfortable. This is nothing to fool around with,. The biopsy isn't the most fun thing to do but it saved my life. When you put it in that perspective, it was tolerable.
