QUOTES AND POEMS i had listed a lot of this in my games group, but ds deleted the quotes section all by itself, unless an admin did that and i don't think an admin CAN do that. wtf? wonder where i can find my faves? its the second time this kind of thing happened, the other was from another group, she deleted the group so all info was GONE. wtf?
ATTITUDE:
"We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how i react to it.

"About all you can do in life is be who you are.
Some people will love you for you.
Most will love you for what you can do for them,
and some won't like you at all.”
"If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd build self esteem first, and the house later.
I'd fingerpaint more, and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd model less about the love of power,
And more about the power of love."
"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple."
". . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young... just married and embarking on my new life with my mate.
Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is... the winter of my life
and it catches me by surprise...
How did I get here so fast?
Where did the years go and
where did my youth go?
I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking
that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is...
my friends are retired/and retiring
and getting grey...
they move slower
and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...
Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.
Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!
And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!!
But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin!
Yes, I have regrets.
There are things I wish I hadn't done...
things I should have done,
but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.
It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think.
So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!!
Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not!
You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!
"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.

LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN,
YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE
SO - ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
~You forget names.... But it's OK because other people forgot they even
knew you!!!
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially
golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really
do care that you don't care to do them anymore.
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's
called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF"
switch..
~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it
anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.
~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all,
OLD FRIENDS!!
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Send this on to others and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!!

Here we stand together,
Dressed in our pain,
Covered with scars
From wounds we did not ask for
Or deserve.
So what now?
We can't go back and relive our lives.
We can't take back the innocence we lost
Or make the sadness we felt into happiness.
But we can go on from here,
So let us start.
Stretch out your hand to mine,
Close your eyes
And slowly let the pain slip away.
Let go of the sadness;
It belongs to yesterday,
And let's walk.
The earth is firm beneath our feet.
The sun is warm on our face.
Heavenly Father sees our struggle,
Smiles at our effort,
And sends us strength.
My friends, we can't stay, looking back,
Lest we falter.
We must face forward,
Eyes wide open,
And keep on walking.
Hold tight and don't let go;
You aren't walking alone,
And neither am I.

Across the throat
Would block out a mother's calm
For two decades?
Who knew a classmate's hand
On an upper arm
Would be felt in every crowd
For twenty years?
Who knew that fear without focus
Is "merely anxiety"
And anger without a point
Is "only depression"?
Who knew that to save me
I buried it beyond memory,
Only to have it rise from its grave,
A phosphorescent zombie?
And if someone knew
I would be running in waking horror
From nightmare ghouls,
Why did they not warn me?
Now I crouch in shadows
Hoping for the lethal head shot,
But the living-dead past
Walks inexorably after me
And I can't outrun its droning cry
That is the hidden scream of me
From way-back-then
Trying to get out of me now.

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others,
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."
