Prolactinoma Support Group
A prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces a hormone called prolactin. It is the most common type of pituitary tumor. Symptoms of prolactinoma are caused by too much prolactin in the blood or by pressure of the tumor on surrounding tissues. Prolactin stimulates the breast to produce milk during pregnancy. My thyroid levels were low but still in normal range and they kept going down (I had several years of blood work showing a downward trend). I found a DR that would try hypothyroid treatment to treat the symptoms. Seems to be mixed schools. Traditional endos won't treat (and don't recommend treating) until levels go below normal. Same with my primary care. He thought it was foolish and would rather prescribe very strong antidepressants!!!
I've been doing thyoid treatment for 10 months. At first I started off with Armour thyroid (and tried different doses) and my levels really weren't coming up. I felt a bit better, but not great. A month ago they added levothyroxineI (more traditional treatment) and I'm starting to feel feel human again!!! Even more of the symptoms have gotten better. I don't feel 100% back to normal, but way better. My next blood work is early December so it will be interesting to see where the thyroid levels are.
I just want my life back!! It's really difficult trying to figure this out. No dedication on the DR's part!! Just me pushing, and some days I feel foolish. At least I'm feeling better... I hope it lasts!
I should fight for thyroid medication. I'm now on Euthrox, and my Thyroid levels are en the normal area, with TSH below 0,5.
I'm still not feeling well, and my doctor prescribed antidepressants -but I'm now trying to quit them because of the side effects.
I have also tried Liothyroine T3, but I couldn't cope with the meds, felt really strange in my head right after having taken it...

Thank you all for your replies. What I can't understand is I lost weight, went to the doc's, gave me blood test, and revealed I had a under-active thyroid, now I thought you put weight on with an under-active thyroid, do you thing the diagnosis is correct, I have no faith in my doctor at all.

I'm gaining weight instead of loosing, so I can't understand that you are loosing weight? Do you have nausea and lack of appetite? I often has, especially in the mornings...:o(

The hot flash wears me out. The only time I may have a "silent' hotflash is if I've rested all day long and done nothing in the way of exertion.
Regardless of what time the hotflash starts, I get sleepy beyond belief and sometimes nod off at my desk at work. I usually pick up from there some. I have no problem dropping into bed exhausted.
My wife looks at me and asks me if I've been crying...that's how bad I look and how bad I feel every day of my life. I get about 6 hours of useful energy each day...beyond that...I don't fight it anymore.
Thanks for your help.
Best wishes Linda
No I have a very good appetite, never nauseous, I feel I have to eat to keep my weight up, saying that I enjoy healthy foods, not sweet, fatty type of food. I like a drink too, although on the Cabergoline I find after one or two, I've had enough.
Best wishes Linda
