Prolactinoma Support Group
A prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces a hormone called prolactin. It is the most common type of pituitary tumor. Symptoms of prolactinoma are caused by too much prolactin in the blood or by pressure of the tumor on surrounding tissues. Prolactin stimulates the breast to produce milk during pregnancy. On a serious note, I decided early on not to "hate it," but rather befriend it as best as I can. I've asked to learn what it has come to teach me/why has it shown up on my journey? I've received some answers to this, but I'm sure there's more to unfold. My desire is to truly live those answers. So far I haven't done a great job of that, but I keep at it... every moment is another opportunity.
I've thanked my hitchhiker for the lessons it's brought & I've said to it, "I got it, thank you, you can go now." I feel it's important to give our hitchhikers permission to go, & to do it with love & gratitude. I know I'm writing all of this at the risk of sounding "wacky," but I can assure you, my hitchhiker hasn't gotten to that part of me... yet... Ha,ha.... Just kidding:) :)
Without hesitation, he said, "Prolactinoma's".
This came from his observations of the fact that our hormonal tumor scours Dopamine in the brain and in the body and is, in varying degree, something that simply keeps us drained to the extent that none of us can ever feel safe from the crushing depression that exude itself into our lives.
I was diagnosed 7 years ago. I had symptoms for well over 20 years before my diagnosis. My youthful Dopamine levels have departed me now and everyday is a little more difficult than the day before.
But, living your life on your knees teaches you a lot about yourself...your human condition...and, from that, you learn a whole lot more about your world around you than you ever would...were you to continually walk in your own strength.
You come to appreciate a soft hand on your shoulder. You also learn how to softly touch others as well.
Considering the prolactinomas that we have, its hard to believe that it isnt depleting our dopamine. I thnk that obviously we arent making enough dopamine otherwise the tumor would go away on its own right? They wouldnt put us on dpoamine agaonists if we had enough dopamine in the first place.
I have also read that if you dont have enough dopamine it can make you feel like crap and depressed and I am a perfect example of that.
Im also wondering why I had such horrible side effects from the meds, such as increased depression?
I felt good for about a week, but the last three days are horrible.
When I feel really bad, it seems as though the hot flashes are much more intense and last longer.
