Prolactinoma Support Group
A prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces a hormone called prolactin. It is the most common type of pituitary tumor. Symptoms of prolactinoma are caused by too much prolactin in the blood or by pressure of the tumor on surrounding tissues. Prolactin stimulates the breast to produce milk during pregnancy. After delivery of the baby, a mother's...
This started my first two weeks on cab. Now it's side effects that had me stop the medicine for two weeks as per my endo. Because he believes it's menopause. Not their miracle drug cab. There are no size effects!!!!!
How long have u been on cab?
Linda
You might feel like a crazy person... but I'm willing to bet that you probably are not a crazy person. Within the first few days of taking the same medicine, I was having similar side effects. I was experiencing very intense anger which was uncontrolled... almost to a point of rage. Small things would frustrate me and make me feel destructive (i.e. I could not open a kitchen drawer very easily and immediately felt like tearing it out and doing the same to the rest of the kitchen). It also made me extremely emotional. For example, in a simple conversation with someone, for no reason whatsoever i just began weeping uncontrollably. I got off of the medicine right away because the change in my personality was so drastic and immediate. I do not write this to scare you or suggest that this is what is happening to you. I only write to share my experience and hopefully, bring you some sort of sense that you are not crazy.
Thank you both for your response to my post.
Linda
That seems to keep the peak levels of the drug down a bit and helps to reduce rages.
Stress management is very, very important and I believe massage will help most anyone with this condition. You gotta take off the stress.
*I've been on bromocriptine since March.*
Im sorry to hear there are so many with the same reactions to the medication, but relieved at the same time. My husband would not believe it was the condition/medication, it was just me being horrible, so Im glad I can show to him the response I have had from you all, and to confirm it is the condition and medication and not an excuse for me to behave badly.
Best wishes to all,
Linda
Don't mean to sound depressing. Just curious if anyone else feels this way. Is it the prolactinoma or meds that make us feel this way? Hard to know I guess!
What you posted above is just about my exact experience too.
I have been on and off the Cab /Bromo and I do notice when on the meds, the emotions are more intense and extream, paranoia, and nasty physical symptoms. Once I get about 2 to 3 weeks off the meds, for a short while I feel halfway decent but then I get into the rollercoaster of emotions more weapy while off the meds. Maybe thats the prolactin rising again.
Once I started taking the meds, Yes the struggle became monumental. I had a rough time a few years ago but it seems like it is getting worse, and I'd do anything to be back feeling like I did. It is a chore to have to fight continually thru the day to remain hopeful and as positive as possiable.
I don't at all feel that you are depressing. It is a challenge to deal with all off this and the changes we are going through and the loss of our old self.
I guess on the short term of all of this, I take it day by day. I try not to think about the long term and have to admit, I use a bit of denial and Hope that somethings gotta work. It can be too much to think about at times and I understand where you are comming from.
Bless ya.
I started to see a therapist . I had to go on paxil for depression and anxiety because it came to no joke. This has gotten serious.
I know I have to go back on cab. But I need to make sure paxil kicks in first. What a mess. Come on now this medicine should not be on the market. Or the doctor should explain plan b . What to take for these side effects. Instead I have to go other doctors for help and then u have to explain cab. To them. I am looking for a new endo. But now my stomach is in turmoil . I am going to try what tigerpaw suggest on breaking up the pills and spreading out the days.
Look this site should positive. So we all need to put our heads together and look for answers and make sure we share back to our group.

He has told me that I can no longer take any of the meds because it is a side effect and could be dangerous!
My partner asked if I could take some form of anti-depressant at the same time to combat the depression and he said most definately not!!! One raises your dopamine levels and the other raises them so they would in effect just cancel each other out.
Maybe you should try other docs? xx
