I wish I could have an answer to help comfort you. I did concider ambien short term to help, al least give my body a chance to adjust to some sleep at night, hoping that a normal sleep pattern would follow.
The down side for me with perscribed sleep aids is the foggyness and increase in depressive symptoms after a week or two on the meds, so in the past it was one month on them, then a few months off.
It is a challenge for sure and my heart goes out too you. We need sleep so our bodies can heal.
