You're lactating because of the tumor. It's because of the increased prolactin levels. I had lactation for years.

I take 1/2 of a bromocriptine every other day for that, works like a charm.

lactation reduces the chances of you ovulating by approx. 90%- thats assuming that one is breast feeding and its not caused primarily by a prolactinoma.

you may or may not have been told by your docs, but prolactin suppresses ovarian activity, even if you have a regular cycle, it does not guanrantee that you are ovulating. and even if you have positive ovulation preciditon kit test strips, it doesnt mean that one is ovulating as those urine dipstciks only indicate that one has had a surge of luteinising hormone( which can occur but still an egg may not roll down the chute.)

taking your oral temperature is useful, i keep my digital thermometre under my pillow, as you want to minimise movement and not even speak ebfore thaking your temp.( if done accurately, this is as reliable as vaginal temps ) generally, oral temps will be seen at around 36.2 degrees (97.2 fahrenheit).

when one is going to ovulate, this is the temperature at which sperm are held in the testicles, the female body temp drops to this at ovulation to help preserve sperm and increase the chance of fertilisation. a couple of days ebfore ovulation, vaginoal secretiosn usually resemble raw egg white, this increases in amount to help sperm swim to the egg, this is another key sign of ovulation being about to happen but it is stil no guarantee..

if you plot your temps, and note when the EWCM (egg white cervical mucous as the babysites call it) comes in, you will get a feel for being able to work out expected ovualtion days cycle day wise eg. day 15, etc..

not everyone realises that irrespective of length of cycle ( day one being first day of period, the last day of that same cycle is the day before the next period starts) plotting this on a chart /piece of paper whatever, helps to predict when to time intercourse- ideally for 5 days before the due day of ovulation, on the day of and for 2 days after- that helps. sperm can live for anywhere from 3- even 6 days.

cycle length changes form woman to woman, very few girls are 28 days, BUT...the overwhelming majority of women ovulate 14 days before their next period begins. so..if like me you have a 31 day cyckle, it is 31-14 = day 17 expected day of ovulation. plot your temps and mucous and it should indicate this too.

high prolactin levels apart from suppressing ovulation, also interfere at fertilisation, and then in transport of the egg back into the uterus, and then at implanatation and then at further development. your other hormones wil be out of whack and go bonkers even if you do catch, if the prolactin was too high to start with.

best plan: get on the meds, monitor your levels once a month and see what the docs say in terms of meds regulation., chart temps and mucous as above. time inimtate behaviour to fit in with key times as above. regularly test for pregnancy at the earliest opportunity and then ask your doc re : when to stop the meds- most say as soon as you know that you are pregnant.

you have the best chance of the pregnancy going to term, if you start trying to conceive when your prolactin levels are as close to zero as possible( for some folk that might be 100, depends as to how the units are measured form lab to lab.)

i was diagnosed witha small prolactinoma in june this year, wish that i had been tuned in to the above prior to TTC and been using a barrier method of contraception. i was pregnant but had a miscarriage last week. we shouldn't have tried until my levels were down as i describe above, not still at 550!


baby issues aside, unchekced prolactin can lead to osteoporosis, so it might be an idea to speak to your healthcare team on that one.
