I just stopped taking narcotic pain killers a week ago after almost a year. I feel like I dodged a bullet because it was so easy to quit. Now I have a terrible toothache. I'm definitely not going to take hydrocodone or Nucynta, but the aleve isn't getting the job done. I have Ultram and Fioricet, but maybe those are addictive too. Any suggestions?

Ultram and floricet, I believe are only mildly addictive and if you are only taking them for am few days, then you will probably be ok.

Mr Tortoise is a pharmacist and I hope he checks in on this question.

There is something that I take for toothe pain and it's called Red Cross. toothache medicine. It's the same thing dentists use to numb pain. All, it is is Clove oil. I had some major pain that oragel wouldn't touch but clove oil gave me excellent relief. You can get it at most pharmacies.

How about going to a dentist? Treat the problem and not the system. It may be the best option.

Yep I have been to the dentist and had it filled. He said if that didn't do the trick, I would need a root canal or an extraction from an oral surgeon...both of which freak me out. Anyhow, until I can get in to have it fixed I need pain control. Thanks for all of the good suggestions!

Keep in mind that Ultram (tramadol) is a narcotic-like pain reliever.
It can be addictive. I was on it for 3 years and I started to abuse it. The withdrawls are Horrible! I would speak to your doctor, or Dentist. Good luck hun. :)

Hi Tammib,

I agree with with what has been posted previously. Fioricet and tramadol are useful for tooth pain but should be used cautiously. Daily use of each can lead to physical and psychological dependence. Don't use them both together either.

I sympathize with your pain. I have a scheduled root canal too. So far, ibu is helping. If it wasn't Id try that clove oil stuff too like Bob suggested. Thanks Bob.

I had an abscess tooth and just had a root canal this afternoon. I had been taking tramadol for the pain. I hope I don't have withdrawal symptoms!!!

My whole face hurts and I am starving. I have bottles of narcotic painkillers and I don't want to take them for fear of addiction. This sucks!!

    So mad at Xfinity!  They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today!  Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....
