Newbie. Lost boyfriend to addiction. Student
Hello everyone,
I'm new here, and am studying addictions in college due to losing my boyfriend to an accidental drug overdose of fentanyl, which will be a year ago on the 21st of this month. He was 27 years young, and was the most important part of my life along with my son. As a part of my course for studying addiction, they had us join an open recovery group, which I love the idea of. If I can help anyone, be an ear, a shoulder, please do not hesitate to reply. For those of you who are continuing sobriety, I am so proud of you. I've lived the journey with my boyfriend for 4 years, and I know how hard it is. You all deserve a pat on the back.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I have seen it take the lives of too many friends and it nearly took mine when I ended up in the hospital for 3 days with renal failure. Luckily doctors got my kidneys working again but addiction is so powerful, it didn't stop me from seeking narcotics for about another year. I stopped only because I couldn't find any more pills and began drinking.
That lasted about a year but when my life took a turn for the worse, loss of job, financial problems, nagging wife wanting divorce, that was when I drove myself to the ER and asked to go into detox. I was turned away because I was drunk at the time so I drove back home, drunk.
About a month later, my wife and I had a big argument, Long story short, the police were involved and I was lucky enough to get a police escort to the hospital. That was the beginning of my recovery. From there I went through an IOP, followed by 3 months of relapse prevention group counseling and always AA meetings.
The 12 steps saved my life and I have branched off into other spiritual studies which have helped me stay sober over 11 years now.
Welcome to the group. We are happy to have you. You will be very valuable to any newbies who happen to drop in. Good luck with your studies.
God Bless
Marissa
