Premature birth is defined medically as childbirth occurring earlier than 37 completed weeks of gestation. About 12 percent of babies in the United States are born prematurely each year. The shorter the term of pregnancy is, the greater the risks of complications. Infants born prematurely are at a greater risk for developing serious health problems such as cerebral palsy,...

If she is going once per day, are you sure she is constipated? Little ones take a while to learn how to use their bodies, and they can appear to be struggling to go but actually be quite fine! Also, you say 3 week old. Is this a term bub? x

She is now on Luctalose (a laxative). She is almost 8 weeks old now (9 days adjusted) and we are lucky to get poop out of her every 3-4 days. She grunts and struggles to go all the time though. Also my son (15 months old) has similar problems. Our pediatrician is sending us to a pediatric GI to have her tested. We are now wondering if they both have the same thing and if there is a nerve problem or something. Hopefully we will have some answers soon.

Something you may want to give a go? My preemie had major issues (he as a 25 week surviving twin) and also my term daughter did too! My boy was basically only going once per week, having great difficulty and pain etc My daughter would go from liquid motions to constipation. I have them both on a Metagenics probiotic (Flora Care for Kids) and they are BOTH nice and regular now. We rarely get any issues :) A huge change in both of them. It also helps in general health as the primary immune response is housed in the gut. (And recent studies show probiotics given to really little bubs like my son doubles their survival rate in NICU! The study was headed by my boys paed of all people) Anyway, my point was it's good to give for a few reasons :) Certainly sorted our babies bowel troubles! xx

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
