Welcome to the waiting room for anticipating moms and dads. Whether you're expecting your first or a new little brother or sister, meet other parents in this community who are also looking forward to a new addition to the family.
A cuddledry/clevamama towel/apron that you wear round your neck for bath times. You can just scoop baby out of the bath into the towel against your body - warm and safe.
A My Brest Friend pillow if you're planning to breast feed. I wouldn't have been able to keep breastfeeding without it, my wrists got really sore (!) but they are expensive so perhaps wait and see how you go. It means I can feed in comfort anywhere, even standing up and walking around if necessary!
A baby bouncer type chair thingy for popping the baby down in during the day.
A grobag/baby sleeping bag so you can relax and not worry about baby slipping under the covers or kicking them off and getting cold.
Travel system - car seat/pushchair but don't spend too much. We were warned that you're bound to realise as soon as you start using it that you bought the wrong one and they can be really expensive!
Things I really didn't need:
A baby bath - you can use the sink or any old tub for the first few weeks then transfer to the main bath tub.
Cute outfits! - I might be an exception but when a baby spits up and poops so much and can't walk or do anything, a sleepsuit that poppers up the front is the perfect garment for all occasions. I'm planning on keeping him in them until he's at least 6 months :)
Baby toiletries - we were advised to just use water on cotton wool and olive oil on dry skin/sore bottom for the first few weeks at least and have pretty much stuck to that (he's 16 weeks now). We do have baby wipes in the travel bag but don't use them on his bottom routinely. I've just bought some baby top to toe wash but to start with he was just bathed in water only. All the lotions and potions are unnecessary.
