others are bound to give you lists of ideas so I'll let them do that, but a lot of online stores like walmart and such have lists of what you should have. Another idea for you to check out.

If you go to walmart or target, they have a registry list of stuff you will need fo your baby, and that helped me alot!

I looked at target, but than I found out that there return policy is really bad. If you register there and somebody gets you something you dont like or need you cant return it or exchange it without a reciept. I looked at babies.com, and they have a really good list

I would try Babies R Us or go to babycenter.com and they are a very useful site as well! Everyone is different in what they feel is absolutely necessary for a new baby. Good luck!

i love babyzone.com cause they have a to do list while your pregnant it broken into months like what you need to do in your first month then etc it really helpful and the quizes are really fun on that site but i agree for your shopping list the best list is at babiesrus

If you have 2 cars it's very convenient to have an extra car seat base. That way you can click in and out of each vehicle without the hassle. It's also good to install your car seat ahead of time so you know what you're doing. They can be tricky at first.

It's good to have plenty of extra receiving blankets and bibs too. My son spit up a lot and we went through them like crazy. Bulb syringe (boogie sucker), thermometer, little nail clippers, soft bristle brush... you can usually buy all of the above together in a kit.

Also remember that those lists have little things that you may or may not nessisarily "need" but are handy to have around. As for clothes I havent even got around to using half of what I have around. For the first month or so I really only needed the sleepers they are nice because the cover the litle feets to help keep them warm, sometimes little sockies dont stay on to well. I also picked up a pack of cloth diapers, not cause I use them but because they make the BEST burp cloth. The have ones that are extra thick so they are some in handy for other things too. That was one of the best things I bought myself. Oh, and extra washclothes, I underestimated the need for these little things. As for the million bibs I have, I havent used em, and I only put the ones on that match the outfits she wears. Maybe if the baby if formula fed (or eating solids, but that isnt for months out anyway) they come in handy, I just know they are in my way right now.. I just picked up the Boppy pillow.. LOVE IT. other than that, you can pick up the lists and stock yourself up but just make sure you have some of the basics and you love and you will be set

I had my first ten years ago and I bought everything I could ever need, don't do it, half of it will get passed on without being opened, try to get things that'll grow with the baby, cots that turn into beds, high chairs like the tripp-trapp, potties that turn into toilet seats and steps, and get others to buy things that'll be usefull in months to come, bibs, bigger clothes etc

My only advice: stores are going to tell you that you "need" lots of things because they want you to buy everything from them. They aren't just trying to be nice making up those lists.

What you need depends on the type of mother you'll be. Are you uptight or laid back? Do you like having the absolute best of everything, or do you plan to use hand me downs? You need to figure out what kind of things you will use. We're all different.

I plan on getting a crib, a stroller, a carrier, a car seat, and cloth diapers. Everything else...well, I'll get stuff at showers, and I'll get stuff as the baby grows. It's not like stores close once the baby arrives.

Keep in mind, I'm pretty laid back and calm. My best friend would go nuts at such a short list because she needs more things to keep her and the baby happy.

Ok, here are the main items I think of when I think of my baby arriving: Crib, crib sheets/blankets, carriage, stroller, car seat, baby clothes, pampers, bottles, sterilizer & baby monitor. Thats all I can think of for now.If you are having a baby shower, hopefully you'll get most of these things. Oh, I forgot the most important thing...Baby Food! If you are not breast feeding...in that case you mihgt need a pump. Good luck!

get a cradle, its nice to have something small in your room until they start sleeping threw the night. then they can have the crib. Also Before my kids were born I started putting things on layaway diapers wipes cloths birp rags etc. That way when the big day comes you have a variety and can try to stay one step ahead of your babies growth. It also pays to get some stuff that you like and that relaxes you. If you cant sleep unless its dark get some eye covers.

I agree with the others that said there will be a lot of stuff you DON'T need!
When buying a stroller take your time picking and trying opening and closing it with one hand. Imagine rain, wind, purse & keys in hand... possible a crying baby! You also want to be able to lift it and know it will fit in your car with everything else you have in there!
Cloth diapers are the best burp cloths ever because they absorb and are soft to baby's face & neck when getting the gunk off! Bottle or breast there will be spit up and it gets every where!
I loved my boppy pillow for nursing and for helping baby as they learn to sit up and play.
Of course you will need a crib, but starting with a cradle or basinette is a personal choice- we have a cradle that has been in the family so it was no cost, but babies aren't in them very long.
Buy extra crib sheets. I never had enough sheets for my crib- spit up and diaper leaks happen!
I have a dresser with a top designed to be a changing table when you add the pad. I love having a changing table, and this is handy because it is useful after baby is out of diapers.
I didn't use a lot of clothes during the begining because we didn't go anywhere. I feel like sleepers and t-shirts are good for the first three months at least. I mostly put the clothes on because it was fun, took pictures and then changed them back to what was comfy!
The car seat that goes from birth to 6 is handy, but having a carry type of carseat is also handy.
I had an over the shoulder baby carrier, or sling, for my second son. It was useful for nursing in public and when you know you will be doing a lot of walking around and don't want your baby strapped to a stroller! They come in all kinds of styles now.

Don't be a sucker and buy everything they market. All a baby really needs is you! and diapers so you stay happy!
