Brown spotting is usually less worrisome than red spotting, since brown means that it's old blood. But I personally still think it would be a good idea to let your doctor know what's going on.
I started getting brown spotting the day after I got a positive pregnancy test, and when I called the dr they tested my hormone levels and found my progesterone was low, so I used progesterone suppositories for the first trimester. Once my hcG levels got high enough, they then did an early ultrasound to rule out problems like ectopic pregnancy. I was only 5 weeks so we only saw the sac, no embryo, but the sac was in the uterus like it should be. An ultrasound the following week confirmed the heartbeat :)
Now it turns out my spotting was due to a subchorionic hematoma, which is a bleed in between the sac and uterus. I've had various amounts of brown spotting, red spotting, even several instances of scary heavy red bleeding. So yeah, I've done a lot of freaking out with this pregnancy! I'm currently on bedrest for a few weeks to hopefully give it a chance to heal. But I'm now 16 weeks and baby still looked great at my last ultrasound 2 weeks ago :)
I don't mean to scare you with the hematoma story, just wanted to give you one cause of spotting that wasn't a miscarriage. (And for that matter, lots of times doctors never determine the cause of spotting!) And many women with hematomas don't end up on bedrest and have pretty normal pregnancies :)
I agree you should call the doctor if you get additional symptoms like camping. Personally, I'd still call just for the spotting, but obviously that's your decision to make.
((hugs!))
