I can't offer any advice but I'm going through the same thing. I am 31 1/2 weeks and my baby is measuring about 29 weeks. She is only a little over 2 pounds and should be at least 3. As far as we can tell she hasn't gained weight in almost 7 weeks. Nobody in the doctor's office has offered any suggestions or seemed particularly concerned.

I don't have any advice, but good luck to both of you. Do you two need to try a different doctor?

I'm on my second doctor's office for this pregnancy. Being high risk, I have used up my options. I'm just taking a chance from here on out.

Are you eating healthily? Have a food diary and write down your food choices and amounts to show your midwife or OB.

Are you smoking? That is the leading cause of underweight babies. Please get help if you are and do not be ashamed. Same advice for drinking, drugs...

If you are eating, staying healthy and not indulging vices...there may be little you can do. Doctors can only do so much. Some babies are smaller than others but turn out perfect! (Are you or hubby petite?)

Hubby and I are both tall and thin. I am about 20 weeks, have gained 4-5 lb, so now about 5'9" and 133.5 lb (9.5 stones) and still wear regular clothes, though I bought my first maternity clothes this weekend. No one, other than those we've told, can tell I am expecting. I think I am having a small one too. Yes, this can be nerve racking, but I must give it to God (or mother nature or the universe...)

I wish I had some advice, but I can only wish you and all other women going through this a good outcome and I send love and prayers.

I don't smoke. I just can't grow a decent placenta. My first one had large holes in it, the second one abrupted, and this one isn't working as well as it should. It's called "intrauterine growth restriction." Nobody is sure what causes it.

I'm sorry about your placenta. Is there anything they can do about that?

Just hope it holds on for at least 5 more weeks. :-) She gained 2 ounces in the past 2 weeks and that's more than she had gained in 7 so it is slowly going on. I have an ultrasound every week and do daily kick counts so if something goes wrong they can pretty much take her from here on out.

Bledpub, I experianced something similiar to what you are going through now. With my DD, she didn't grow for about 4 weeks and based on US, she was only in the 5% for size. But US can be wrong, they can be a pound off either way. I was induced a week early because of the fear of my placenta wearing out. Placentas only last for a certain amount of time and there is no rhyme or reason as to why they give out. Eeyore7, I wouldn't put much stock into US and size they give you, cause my DH came out a pound bigger than they told me based on my last US. With my DD she stopped growing at 33 weeks and at that time they told me that she was already almost 8 lbs and would probably be closer to 9 when born. I was induced at 39 weeks and she weighed 7lbs even. I measured big with her from the beginning. At 20 weeks measure 26 and 33 weeks I measured 39 and just kept getting bigger. So sometimes all those measurements are off. Hope all goes well.

I don't know what to expect on Friday, but I hope everything will be explained to us.

The worrying thing at the min is that I am needle phobic and I don't want to go to hospital on Friday not knowing what could happen.

Good luck! I remembered earlier that with my first son they told me he would be around 71/2 pounds and he was only a little over 6. With my second one, they told me he would be closer to 8 pounds but he was 6. (Of course, he was more than 4 weeks early.) So I think they can be wrong on the ultrasounds, too.

I'm going to start having weekly NSTs to check on the placenta and see how it is doing.

I went to the hospital yesterday and had another scan. They are still concern about the baby's bowel. They also picked up that I have more fluid around the baby and that is not normal for late pregancys. They sent me to be checked out by a midwife and doctor.

They said the pains I was having was because of the fluid and all I can take is pain killers. They didn't seemed bothered about the recent findings at first untill I started asking more questions.

I found it hard to get the doctors to answer my questions and felt I was being ignored. The main question was "If people are showing concerns about the baby's bowel and the fluid around the baby and also the pain this is putting me in, why isn't any options of starting me early being discussed"


One doctor could not answer the question as he claims he was not experience enough and would get another doctor to answer my question.

The second doctor told me that they will not induce anyone till after 40 weeks because it could affect the baby's breathing despite the situation.

I was being told that they are sending me home with some pain killers and to go back for more checks later in the week. It took them nearly 2 hours to try and sort out the discharge paperwork to find out that 2 different doctors and a consultant was looking at my notes and the recent scans. I then had some one come back to me to tell me that because of the concerns raised they are going to induce me within 48hours.

The NHS have made me feel very frustrated and very low at the moment.

Sunday went very well. My little girl was born ok and has been given the all clear after a few checks. I was put on a drip after the birth to prevent hemeraging but was given the all clear too after that.
She weighs 6lb 1.5oz which is slightly smaller than my first, but she is healthy and well.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! I'm so glad everything is ok. Did they find any problems with her bowel? I know you are relieved to have her in your arms!
