Hi, I had my baby 5 months ago and went through my pregnancy alone. It was the worst time of my life. I loved my baby's father but he broke my hear, moved far away and never called. My family got me through it, and my friends. I took a year out of university and just took each day at a time. It was hard, I couldn't bear going to my antenatal classes, I was the only single one and seeing the happy couples with daddy's cradling the women's tummys almost killed me. I was so jealous. The women on this site helped me a lot and my family supported me too. If you ever want to talk, don't hesitate to message me, I know it's awful I thought my life was over. I now have a perfect baby bot and a new partner who loves me and my son. He is great with him. After my son was born, his father did come round a little and now sees him once a month. I am back at uni and my life is better and I am stronger.

I may be a single mom. Though I've been married for 1 1/2 yrs my husband was furious when he found out I was expecting. We have not been doing well and contemplating divorce. Its been very hard - I have a 6 yr old from a prior marriage & it was very different when it was all planned and we were happy & excited.

What is helping me is support from my friends, friends on this site (check the single parenting forum too) and also my family. Of course a few say I shouldn't even have the baby but I can't do that.

I think dads also come around sometimes when the baby is here - they don't think its real until they can see it. So maybe this dad will come back in the picture but then custody issues, etc.. come into play. Having one child already, I can tell you that you never will reget it. There are hard times but you look at that child and the love is so strong you make it through anything.

I am not going to be a single mom this time. However, my first daughter I took care of all on my own (with the help of my parents.) When my 13 year old was first born I was so worried about the effects of not having a dad around and went out of my way to try to force them to have time together. I finally realized that that was not my job and he would have to take some responsability with it if he wanted a relationship with MY beautiful daughter. Of course he didn't make any effort and soon disappeared. Since she was under a year old he has seen her 2 or 3 times. And as sad as it is, because I should have chosen better for her, we have really been so much better without him. The things, including attitudes, he would have brought into her life she was better without all that. My husband has been a godsend for both of us, and although she had to wait a long time for it, she has a dad who not only loves her completely, but she knows that he is there for her because he wants to not because he's forsed to. Good luck and keep your head up... if you always try to keep in mind making choices that are best for your child... not the fairy tale we all wish was true... things will come together for you and your family!

Ugh! Just more of a reason for me to hate men. I swear sometimes being alone is better.

I am a single mom by choice. I think the biggest thing you need is a support system to help get you through the pregnancy. My friends and family have been on board since the very beginning and have gone through the ups and downs with me... (4 losses, and currently pregnant with one little boy- 21 weeks). As for the male figure, a lot of my friends are men, my brother lives close to me and is going to have a baby as well so we will be with him a lot... It takes a lot of planning!

My DH left when my son was 9 mos. came back for awhile then left again when he was like 1 1/2.....thank goodness!! I had my parents support and never had any problems dating...working...traveling... having one is easy!! I love the bond we have today b/c of this...(he's 18) you'll do great!!! HUGS
