With my pregnancies, I always went by 8 weeks = 2 mths, 12 wks = 3 mths, 16 wks = 4 mths, 20 wks = 5 mths etc. A 40 week pregnancy actually equals 10 mths on the calendar in months. So, who knows why they say a pregnancy is 9 months.... Maybe its because they count your pregnancy starting from your last menstrual cycle ie. you are already 4 weeks pregnant by the time you miss a period.

I did the same!! But now I get lost and forget how many weeks I am!! I think these babies are taking all of the oxygen from my brain! :)

The 40 weeks is the gestational age (measured from your last period until your baby's EDD); the baby's fetal age... it's actually counted 4 weeks after your missed period... so hence the nine months...

I stopped trying to figure it out because it didnt make sense, so I just tell people how many weeks I am and let them do the math!!

As PP said since a pregnancy is calculated on 40 weeks, if there are 4 weeks to a month, that's actually 10 months, not 9. If you think about it that way, if your baby is late (born in week 41, let's say), then you've COMPLETED 10 full months of pregnancy.

It tells you how many months you have COMPLETED. For me, it says I've completed 7.7 months of pregnancy, so I'm 0.7 months into my 8th month... so I tell people I'm 8 months pregnant. Hope that helps!

it isnt actual 10 calendar months its 10 lunar (28 days each, or 4 weeks) months which is about 9 calendar months (28-31 days4- 4.5 weeks) trust me the extra 2-3 days makes a difference when it adds up.

a year is 13 lunar months.

I could not tell you how many months I am! I always said how many weeks. Then I am like IveyCare and some days I have to look at the calendar to remember! LOL

My brain hurts!! I just go by weeks, and assume I'm somewhere around 4.5 months, I am 19 weeks and 4 days. Either way I know I'm due the end of May!!

It seems to me that your weeks (or months) don't count until you've finished them.

I go by the date of my last period. My period started Sept 2nd, so as of Jan 2nd I had finished 4 months. On Feb 2nd I'll have finished 5 months. And by the time my due date rolls around on the 9th of June I'll be 9 months and 1 week :)

I do the same with my weeks - 18 weeks today b/c I've finished the 18th week and I'm starting on the 19th.
