Lactating in pregnancy is pretty common hun, I had it with both of mine too. You can use shelf singlets to avoid the bra, and stuff breast pads into the shelf to keep you dry. I would definately say DON'T PUMP! For two reasons. One - you want the baby to firstly get colostrum. That is made once the placenta detaches, so you need to wait until you have delivered. Secondly - you don't want to pump. Really, you don't. I have been pumping now for 8 months combined, and honestly if I had of needed to do it through the pregnancy too I would have gone mad by now... Perfectly normal! I'm 36 weeks now, but I've been leaking colostrum since at least week 32.

Usually if you are wearing a padded bra, it's not so bad and will absorb into the bra but you can also wear nursing pads if you need them.

DO NOT pump or over-stimulate your nipples as this can lead to pre-term labor.

Just celebrate that your body is gearing up to give your baby the greatest gift of all!

OH and one more thing -

sometimes I just let it flow at night. I never get more than a quarter-sized wet spot and it's usually dry by the time I get up in the morning.

What are shelf singlets? I haven't heard of them. I don't know if this is normal either but it seems to have stoped but I am going to keep and eye on the issue just incase. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I am deffinatly going to mention it when I go in.

Oh sorry they are just the singlets with an added layer inside that is elasticised and fits just under your boobs. They are made so that you don't have to wear a bra but they give some support.

And it will probably come and go over the next few weeks/months until the baby comes.

Its VERY common, so do not worry about it especially after a warm shower it helps let the milk down (good to know when your low and feeding your child).

Pretty much wearing a bra is a must if you can geet the washable breast pads they are great! And good luck.

Ruth86: Where would I find those singlets? I am stuck on bed rest for the majority of my time but when I am allowed to get out and about I will pick up some and see if they work with me. Since I am so big chested to start with I don't really get much support out of anything except bras but I am willing to try anything.

My pregnancy books all said lactating anywhere from 2nd trimester to last is normal. They said DO NOT get the lactation going in any way and certainly do not pump. Apparently, stimulating your breasts can cause dangerous contractions. Also, your baby needs that first milk for its health when breastfeeding.

How exciting to know things are working there though! Apparently you can buy washable breast pads, but they don't keep as good of shape. Check your maternity stores or breastfeeding area of the hospital.
