Pregnancy Support Group
Welcome to the waiting room for anticipating moms and dads. Whether you're expecting your first or a new little brother or sister, meet other parents in this community who are also looking forward to a new addition to the family.
Child birth is child birth no matter what anyone says! You are making a choice and it's your choice to make. It's not a bad decision as long as you are aware of the pros and cons and both you and your Dr. are comfortable with it!
I too am having a repeat c-section with my second child. Partly because of being high risk for HELLP and partly because I like the idea of being able to plan as I too have a 5yr old who will need to be cared for while I am GIVING BIRTH to our daughter!! My first c-section was an emergency, but it was a wonderful experience for my husband and I.
Don't worry about the judgmental people...they don't have to like it or agree with it as long as they support you in the end:-)
Good Luck to you!!
Don't ever feel badly about your choices!!!!!
Anyone who has a c-section whether planned or not, is absolutely going through the "birth" experience. The pain, the recovery, the extra things needed to be done. You do not need to listen to anyone who belittles you for any reason, let alone an arbitrary outcome that ignorant people put upon your birth experience.
You and your doctors know what is right for you and your baby, there are pros and cons obviously but the number one responsibility of you and your doctor is a happy healthy Momma and Baby.
Let the other people talk - ignorance is bliss. Let them be blissful, and you just ingore ;)
I think that you may believe some people are judging you, but perhaps they are just genuinely concerned?
I am quite sure that if you know all the facts, and can at least explain to them the reasons WHY you want another section, all the benefits, etc., that that will make them stop.
Some people seem to have an issue with name-calling and all that, which I quite frankly do not understand. Nobody is judging anybody for having a c-section if it was needed to get your baby out safely, or to save your life. Yes, it is called giving birth via a c-section.
Some people MAY have an issue with those who CHOOSE a c-section, ie. an ELECTIVE C-SECTION, which is NOT medically indicated, because of the risks to the baby and the mother. It is much safer for mother and baby to have a vaginal delivery.
You can read my post on "How to avoid a c-section"...if you are interested in learning more. But that post is more geared to first-time moms who have never had a c-section, and how to avoid one in the first place. Unfortunately, once a woman has a c-section, she often ends up with another one...unless she is really adamant about VBAC.
In the end, it is your body, your baby. I had to have an emergency c-section under general anaesthesia with my third. I faced a lot of pressure to HAVE a repeat c-section,including from my own DH. Over the course of the pregnancy,he got a bit more informed, and thanks to one good ob-gyn, who let him truly know all the risks of a c-s to both of us, and the advantages of a vbac, he was sold, and became my strongest supporter.
But that may not be your case; that is ok. I sure as heck hope it is not people here on DS that are judging you!
Big hugs to you and bubs...and either way,
Good luck!
girl you need to do whatever is best for you. Personally, I have given an elective csection thought just because of the many things you have mentioned in your opening remarks...in addition, I am seriously considering a tubal ligation after this birth...so if they are already having to be in there...then why not? I have done 4 vaginal births and I can say that they are not all cracked up to be. hang in there! Good luck!
