I found out that I was having a boy at 19 weeks and it was clear as day. We found it right away but at the end of the ultrasound he went back to just reasure me that it was a boy and his legs were crossed and we couldn't see anything. So there is a chance but hopefully you get lucky and get to see it.

Definitely, by 19 weeks, you should be able to tell - it's unmistakeable. The only exception is if the ultrasound machine is really old or low quality. If it produces fuzzy/foggy images, it could be difficult. Well, also if baby's legs are closed. the 20-week scan is actually an anatomy scan: to make sure baby is growing properly and everything is developing as it should. So, in reality, finding out the sex is just a plus, but not necessarily the reason you're getting the 20-wk scan (unless you pay specifically for that). Anyhow, sometimes the sonographer will check and if baby's legs are crossed, they may try to see from a different angle or check a couple of minutes later - it all depends on the sonographer. I hope you get to find out! What I did before I went for my 20-wk scan was look up photos of 20-wk sonograms to see what each gender looks like, that way I would know what I was looking at when the sonographer/doc. pointed it out to me. We found out the sex at 18 wks. Our tech shook my belly when our lil guy wouldnt cooperate. So if you want to know, they will do their best.

I found out at 20 weeks and there was NO mistaking he was a BOY! We got a clear shot...a very clear shot :) Good Luck!

I couldn't find out the sex of my baby during the first 3 scans. She just wouldn't cooperate. By the 4th ultrasound I was given 80% chance of girl. By the 5th ultrasound I was given 99% girl. Generally if the tech can't figure out the sex it means your baby isn't cooperating enough to have the full anatomy scan done and you will be getting another ultrasound and another chance at finding out. But it doesn't always work that way. Sometimes they just cannot tell you what you want to know.

We found out the sex at 4 months (18 weeks) - our little guy layed it all out there for the world to see. We had tried to find out the sex at 14 weeks, but he was bouncing around too much then.

Friends of ours found out the sex at about 16 or 17 weeks also - a girl.

we found out that baby b was a boy at 14 weeks and baby A, also a boy, at about 16 weeks! A lot of times if it's a boy it can be unmistakable, but if it is a girl, it may just be a boy in disguise.... So don't go ripping off tags on those cute little dresses! :)
with my daughter, the US tech had me rolling on my side to see if we could get her to uncross, and it worked!

I was informed by 4 different sonographers that i was having a baby girl 3 years ago. When the baby came out, it was a boy. I had all girls clothes and pinks... what a shock! Be careful in regaurds to clothes and such because im living proof that they are not always correct. Good luck. :)

Your chances of finding out are good as long as baby cooperates. My perinatologist told us at 16wks3days. At 19wks I had a 3d u/s and it was super clear. With my first son the tech was a jerk and wouldn't tell us, with my 2nd they didn't look until late in the pregnancy (30 wks or so) so it was great to find out so soon. If your baby doesn't cooperate you can try to find an u/s school and they will look or most 3d places have a lower price just for gender ID. Good luck!

I had my first U/S at 18 weeks and she was curled up tight in my pelvic area and wouldn't really move. The Tech shook my belly and she moved just enough to tell it was a girl, but they couldn't get all the measurments. I went back at 20 weeks and she was a lot more active, and gained 4oz and still was obvious It's a girl....Just had another Ultrasound at 22 weeks, and it's still the same - GIRL! She weighs 1lb now....seems strange, I have a 1lb baby now, but am happy she's healthy and OK!!!

I have known people to find out the sex of their baby at 16/17 weeks so I don't see why this should be a problem.
I was 21 weeks when we found out we are having a girl and it was a clear picture so we are pretty sure.
A friend of mine however wanted to find out the sex of her baby at 21 weeks also but baby had its legs crossed so she is having to wait until the birth to find out but she is kinda looking forward to the surprise now
