False Labor

Last night I was having some cramping but it wasn't even and the pain wasn't all that bad. When I called the doctor this morning the nurse told me that I was either having early labor or false labor. After drinking a lot of water and taking a couple of Tylonol the cramping went away and I was able to sleep for 7 hours. I think this is just false labor but I am not sure. It doesn't hurt or anythng like that but it worries me because my fiance is so far away. Anyone experiancing this or have any advice?

If it doesn't get painful or regular, it's most likely Braxton-Hicks contractions. Also, if drinking water and changing position make it go away, it's also probably Braxton-Hicks. Here is a link to the American Pregnancy Association that may help you:

I have been having Braxton Hicks contractions for about 2 weeks (since about 38 1/2 weeks)- I even had some recorded on a non-stress test. They were mild and felt sort of like menstrual cramps really low. I kept getting them in the middle of the night and I knew they weren't 'true' (I hate that label) because they went away and I was able to go back to sleep.

Last night I woke up with 'true' contractions - they usually start in my back and I can actually see my uterus start to contract and get hard right before I start feeling the 'pain' of the contraction in my abdomen. I know these are real b/c even though I was able to relax enough to sleep a few hours last night, they never went away and are much stronger today.

After 2 weeks of BH, I didn't think I would be able to tell the difference either, but it's very obvious!
