Anyone have severe swelling in legs?

I have had swollen feet and ankles since 20 weeks. Now I am 32 1/2 weeks, and have been having worse swelling the last few days. It has gone up my calves and into and past my knees. And my hands have been more swollen than usual.

I am headed to the OB tomorrow to check it out, since it has gotten worse, and since my blood pressure has been borderline high for about a week (usually 140's/80's).

Anyone have swelling like this? I am obviously worried about preeclampsia. Thanks ladies.

Both times I had this it ended up being preclampsia. You can actually have it even without a high blood pressures so make sure that they check your urine for protein, too. The first time I had it they ignored it because my blood pressure was relatively low. When I tried to explain that it was low, but high for ME, they shrugged me off. A week later I had a complete plancetal abrption and was diagnosed with preeclampsia, but by then it was too late.

I'm glad you are letting the doc check this out.

Yes, it can be preclampsia. It can also be garden variety edema. Either way, try to elevate your legs periodically throughout the day. They need to be higher than your heart.

Let us know what the doc says.

So far they are just calling it gestational hypertension, but I am on bed rest to prevent it from becoming pre-e. Swelling is down a bunch as long as I keep my feet up and drink lots of water.

I'm glad that drinking water and elevating your legs is helping and I am so happy the doc said it isn't pre-e. Will they give you any blood pressure pills or are they waiting to see if elevation + hydration does the trick?
