Pregnancy - Teens Support Group
This community is dedicated to the experience of being pregnant as a teenager. Pregnant teenagers face many of the same obstetrics issues as women in their 20s and 30s. However, there are additional medical concerns for younger mothers, particularly those under 15 and those living in developing countries. For mothers between 15 and 19, age in itself is not a risk factor,...
My reccomendation : PLEASE specificy, if this is a security concern of yours, to the front desk staff on the l/d floor and the nurses, that the father is not welcomed back into the room or into the nursery. If you have a current photo of him to show them, so they know who they are looking for.. even better. They can also list you under an alternate name ( alais) , or list you under a certian sercurtiy settings, so that when people call, your name doesnt even show up. - However, if you are going to have family, like your mom, sister , aunts ect visiting you, be sure you let them know, what you are listed under, or what your security code is, so they know you are actually in the hosptial.
There are secuirty procdeures in place for reasons like this. Although some people may not think this is fair, its a hospital.. not a court. While you are in the hospital, he does not have any legal rights to see the child, nor can he "prove" he is actually the childs father.. so you call the shots.
As far as breast feeding.. just be up front with your nurse. The breast feeding will usually take place on Mother baby, not Labor and delievery.. once you have your baby, you are moved to another unit. So when you are moved, tell your nurse about level of comfortablility, or your nursing plan.. Their suggestions are often very helpful, and they are just there to help you, and offer some helpful advice, or to be there to answer any questions for you.. or offer techniques that may make your life a little easier. But if they feel TOO pushy, dont be afraid to say so.. and just say, i'd like to try this on my own for a little while, and if i need some help i'll give you a call.
You are entitled to your own privacy.. just keep in mind , that you only have about a day, with these wonderful, educated nurses, who can offer a lot of helpful little tips..
Best of luck to you!! -- Please be sure to give us an update. We'd love to see pics!
breastfeeding is an amazing thing. congrats on trying that. if your uncomfortable with everyone being in the room then tell people that you only want so and so there. as for someone showing you how its what they are there for. i'm assuming you've never done that before so they want to make sure the baby is latching on right among the first things and that your holding his/her head right. they don't want you to go home and become more frusterated.
hope it all goes well for you keep us posted
