My daughter began using Lupron three years ago when she was three. She'd been watched by a pediatric endocrinologist since she was 8 months old when we noticed that her chest had the curve of a breast and not just baby fat. She was a tall, big baby at birth and was always in the 97th percentile for height and weight (so was perfectly proportioned--never fat). My husband and I are tall, slim so pediatrician felt that alone couldn't be deciding factor. However, her bone age was extremely advanced and she showed signs of other symptoms. She had a sonogram to check her ovaries (after a bleeding incident) and an MRI to check for tumors. Eventually, everything added together over those 2 1/2 years led us to want to nip this in the bud. She's used to the shots (every 21 days). She knows it's a part of what she has to do. However, as her baby teeth fall out, her adult teeth growing in are somewhat yellow. I am a freak about dental hygeine. She's been to the dentist religiously since her first teeth broke. I never let her sleep with bottles or my breast to avoid rot, we brush her teeth twice a day (and before that her gums), never allowed sugary treats (raisins, candy, etc.) and her teeth until now have been perfect. Her dentist claims that some people just have discolored teeth, however I'm wondering why that wasn't the case with her baby teeth? Has anyone heard of a link between Lupron and tooth discoloration?

I used to work in Dental and some medications can discolor your teeth.
It can be fixed once all of her adult teeth come in.

ABSOLUTELY!. You are a psychiatrist? Are you near me? LOL! I have been thru several in the past few years and they one-by-one left the practice and went to other places that I could not continue to be a patient.

My GP is continuing my meds while I look for a NEW therapist and PDOC........ but it's hard! Insurance limits me and if there is no bond between me and the ones on the list, then it's not worth the trouble.

I was excited about meeting a new one a few weeks ago. I've got a thing about being late. I'd rather be 2 hours early than to be 5 minutes late. First of all, I waited 3 hours to see him. He kept me waiting 2 hours past my appointment time. I almost left........... it's tough to sit in a waiting room with anxiety and entertainment myself. That was strike one. Strike two was when he brought me back for FIVE MINUTES............. and pulled out the prescription pad.

So now I think I need to go the other way. Find a good therapist first......... and then a PDoc (hopefully in the same practice). But again, I'm limited by insurance on who I can see......... but I don't want to keep repeating what I did as I just mentioned.

I have searched and searched for a "live" support group in my area. They would be the ones to give the best recommendations. That's how I found my first PDOC........... there used to be a support group here (no longer in existence) and I was referred to her by one of her patients.

Wanna offer some advice on that one??? It's not like I can interview them on the phone, etc.

I was on it from teh age of 5 till I was 10. I suppose it worked. It slowed my growth down and stopped me from developing at the rate I would have, though I still was developing before my peers. It gave me horrible mood swings and hot flashes. For the longest time, well into the beginning of high school and some degree now (I'm a first year in college), I had the worst time controlling my emotions. I use to cry so much they thought my parents were abusing me, the farthest thing from the truth. But then again, I came from an emotional family. I wouldn't say it was one or the other, but lupron certainly enhanced it. Sometimes I wonder if it adversely affected my sexual development, it's hard to get information on it. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but the people and side effects haven't been based on someone that was on it as long as I was. Maybe I;m crazy lol.

Lupron was the best decision my parents and I made for my case of Precocious Puberty. I was told I would be left 4'11'' if I did not take them. We decided it would be worth it to take Lupron for my self esteem (though I was 11...what the heck did I know at that time?!) and was then told I'd only be able to grow to 5'2''. In the end, it was a surprise to my parents and doctor's because I now stand at 5'7''! I'm a normal height, and the injections never caused me to have any side effects. To this day, I thank the doctor's for pushing us to get these injections....because had I not, I may never would have been able to persue my career in theatre the way I have! So I ultimately urge parents to choose YES to Lurpon for their kids if at all possible. I'm a strong believer and I consider it a great gift and blessing to have had that option.
