Ugg...
So much for being out of money and using the free Medicaid program.
It sucks.
I am stuck with what I can get.
I go in for an appointment yesterday. First time I met this woman.
We get the introductions out of the way and she says, "Now for the treatment plan."
What do you want to work on? We have to have three things filled in to show we are making progress.
I was like dumbfounded. We have not talked about what is going on or why I am seeking counseling. So I tell her I need help with anxiety.
So I sit while she types for five minutes or so.
I explain I am confused. I came to her for help and I have no idea how to put together a treatment plan.
She explains it is needed or she could put a note in that I refused to put together a treatment plan and we can talk for the rest of the time. Her attitude was very condescending.
I asked her is she had any experience with trauma and adults who were molested as children.
She said she had experience with trauma and had been doing this job a long time.
It was so weird and surreal. I had worked up in my mind what I wanted and how I expected it to go. Nothing at all like what I was hoping to get from this experience.
I was spoiled with great insurance. I had a real doctor for primary care. Now I got a god complex nurse practitioner.
I had a doctor for my Therapist. I don't know what I go now. this new one did not have any credentials on the wall.
uggg. going broke and losing everything sucks. even my health is gone now.
I am living on borrowed time and getting the suckiest of all sucky treatment.
Thanks for the venting session. I need to bitch and complain a bit.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Most of my first therapy appointments were not very effective because I went in with scripted expectations. When the therapist failed to follow my script, I stomped out indignant and refused to go back. I was very close to losing everything before I "hit bottom" and tried out the notion that "getting help" meant opening myself to something outside my personal brilliance and certainty.
But that is me.
Hope you find what it is for you, Jimbo. For sure the public assistance system is horribly overworked and understaffed.
So far so good. St first I had doubts because my new Councillor was blind, but even that has helped since I must explain to her what others may gather and assume by body language. She pulls me to see things objectively.
Not taking her side, but now, all health care providers have to do all that stuff for the insurance companies. Otherwise, they can be accused of milking the system and get a HUGE bill.
My chiropractor has to do that now. Our fist 5 minutes is him updating from the last session.
I'd try to get past that part and see how things progress.
I can't remember any effective first visits myself.... Let's see, first one said she didn't think I was raped b/c I didn't know the details (I was knocked unconscious, what did she expect).... another said I was "broken" and I said "you're mean" and that was that.... one said I had a gult complex o ver my dad's cancer based on the questionnaire I filled out, which included family deaths and causes thereof (and as i didn't give Dad cancer, no idea to this day WTF thta was about, and I've asked my therapist,too)....
My first session with current guy, whom I trust, went like this:
"Tell me what's going on."
I went in expecting the checked-box-and-plan thing since that's what I'd seen. I just fell apart. He wanted to listen?! Hly crap! So I bawled all over and he handed me tissues and nodded and said, "Let's set you up for twice a week and we'll see what we can do to help you feel better."
I feel ya on rotten first visit and the whole insurance issue. Mine is crap and I miss the old insurance but we couldn't pay for it out of pocket.... *sigh*
Sorry, didn't mean to type so much.
Hopefully, next session goes better or you can be referred to someone with a kinder touch---and don't let *me* rant about God complex NPs.... *boom*
Big purrs,
Leo
I wish you all things good. I know how being with money, then being wiithout are so different in health care.
My therapist has to do that periodically, along with asking me how I'm functioning (bad to good; it varies)
She merely asks me what are the three things that are bugging me the very most...then rephrases my answers into bureaucrat-speak, runs the rephrasing past me, and we go on.
Were I to guess I'd say the most pressing thing would be to get her to teach you coping skills so you are not overwhelmed all the time.
Dunno if she can get you there though...O.o... but I offer this in the spirit of trying to get some mileage out of her.
