I'm WAY out of my league, here. Therapy is certainly a smart step.
Is the rest of her family as in tune to her situation, and her response, as you are (I mean that as a compliment to you) ?
How well are YOU coping with YOUR PTSD ?
I ask because ... I don't feel like I can do much to help those who are also suffering from PTSD. I feel like I'm still in the battle.
Are you far enough along that you think you can provide her comfort ... advice ... safety ... somebody to turn to, or call on, when she's scared and symptomatic ?
I'm so sorry. I just connected with a cousin I hadn't talked to in 40-ish years.
Turns out, SHE has PTSD. I don't know what we'll be able to do for each other, but ... to BE THERE FOR each other.
I wish you luck. Truly.
No two situations or experiences are ever the same but I was just thinking about my niece and the toxic env't she is growing up in. I agree with reply#1, I am out of my league here. I was thinking maybe you can suggest social services and see what they can recommend or give advice on. Social services is probably the best thing I can think of, after your suggestion of therapy. Does her parents or family know about her condition? Does she have both mom and dad in the pic?
I think that because ptsd is different for everyone and how they cope is also individually unique, maybe the best thing would be for you to help her with services provided and advice, but only when it's necessary for her to listen and accept.
For reading my niece is reading a story about a woman dying, my sister asked for another book and was told the only other book she could read was also about dying. Really only two books???
