Healing is...looking forward. We realize what is in the past can no longer harm us, so, we face forward, and seek out better things for ourselves.
Healing is...touching yourself, realizing that touch didn't hurt, and accepting that this is how touch is supposed to be.
Healing is...a healthy realization that just because we have one bad moment, or even a few bad moments, that doesn't mean we are on a downward spiral. It means, we had a bad moment - just that.
Healing is...looking at your body...and realizing "it" is not your enemy. It couldn neither save you, nor condemn you. It just happens to house the things that makeup your physical being - that's all.
Healing is...knowing the patterns of your past were taught. The lessons were not all good, so you determine to reteach yourself in a healthy way. It is taking control of what you allow into your head.
Healing is...an upward climb. It is a trip, not a destination. It is a continuum, not a place you "end up", but a place you continually explore, in an effort to improve..not become stagnant and bored.
Healing is...when you see disorder and chaos around you, and you are not frozen in fear, but are spurred to action. It is when you are able to effect positive change in your own reality.
Healing is...when you see a story similar to your trauma, on the news, and you are not prompted to huddle in the closet and hide from the pain, but you are moved to the point of compassion for the person the news story is about -- you feel empathy with that person, and you are not your main focus.
Healing is...reaching back. Not looking back -- REACHING back. It is not revisiting the past in horror and shame, but it is realizing there are others on the same journey as you, and it is being unsettled when you cannot help them find a foothold. It is being consumed with care for others who hurt too.
Healing is a process...and each of us -- good days and bad, each of us is working the process for good.
