I posted this on the end of another thread, but I figured why not give it a thread of its own? Tomorrow I might be sorry I didn't.
I'm bracing myself for a body blow, so I'd like to vent.
I'm really glad others here think I will get tenure tomorrow. It's the day before the extended deadline, so to get through the stress I need to vent.
Allowing me to vent, let me say that I expect to receive tenure denial by this community college. They did everything they could to make sure they didn't hear my whole story as a scholar so they could judge me thumbs down. Over and over since I got here I was told I could only tell them about what I did from arriving in 2011 forward. Not the fact that I wrote a book in 1994 and taught on war and peace in Latin America all of my life. Not even that I came in 2011 from teaching about that fresh from Argentina.
So now they can label me a crazy PTSD case that polarized his students in the death and dying classroom. Not mentioning that as a survivor of a car bombing I showed The Hurt Locker in sympathy with other car bombing veterans from this generation in Iraq. No, I'm told I'm "anti veteran" because one evaluation from one student said so. Ignoring all the rave evaluations from other students. Without allowing my lifelong record of teaching and writing sympathetically to trauma survivors. Including working as a hospital chaplain to them directly, I'm labeled crazy by these community college committee members.
As Kurt Vonnegut would say about this absurdity, "so it goes." Thanks for letting me vent today.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I heard un chisme del Ecuador that President Mujica is hoping you don't get the tenure. He thinks you can do better in Montevideo. He says there allot of three-legged dogs in need of adoption there.
Just a rumor. . . You know how those grapevine reporters are.
Continued support as your reality unfolds.
I like Mujica's rumor about being in Montevideo a lot better.
I like Mujica's rumour a lot better too, and then some stuff I won't let me say....
you can maybe write it to them somehow officially so it is in the file and they cannot say it isn't. of course you will have thought of this, you are brilliant and I am, well, I am me.
Truly sucks..big hug to you
Remember, don't get mad get even...perhaps chat with a lawyer
That's true especially since I know for a fact that the lead voice against me in my 2nd tenure interview is a woman known for chewing the chair of our division out once in front of everybody at a college divisional meeting. But because I have PTSD, any conflict of mine carries serious weight that conflict for others does not carry.
Oh well, I don't have the decision yet. That comes tomorrow.
It may be that it just takes the threat of legal action to get them to change their minds.
I once met a guy who was having similar issues with his employer (a pretty big name one at that). Except in his case he was injured at work and had to take time out to recover. However, his employer didn't want to accommodate his temporary disabled status or give him workman's compensation. As soon as his supervisors "overheard" that he was considering legal action they changed their tune real quick and rolled out the red carpet for hin to avoid legal action.
The way I see it, if they're going to fire you then you don't have anything to lose by taking legal action. Especially if you go with one of those lawyers who only makes you pay if they win your case.
