My recently deceased mother (87) was an anti-smoker, as was her mother before her. I never got to know my grandmother, but I was well versed on her opinion of smoking. Yup, you guessed it. I smoke with the passion of the persecuted. What's logic got to do with it? I have long responded to the anti-smoking rants with, "Enough about my death. Let's talk about yours for a while." Was it morbid obesety which killed my mother or old age? My mother and I were thoroughly estranged by the time of her death, as was she with her mother. I haven't asked. The detail doesn't seem too important to me.
In my personal herstory, I have taken active parts in anti-drug/alcohol campaigns. I have loads of gruesome death tales to tell in support of those campaigns. In recent years I have found myself disliking the memory of telling those morbid tales. The memories sit like guilt barbs in my consciousness. I am still looking for the words to speak that guilt. Works in progress. . .
In this morning's spin, I find myself wondering if the effort to avoid a particular cause of death implies that there is such a thing as an attractive way to die. Just wondering. . . Still processing. . . I am not at all certain what I am reaching for here.
Thoughts? Opines? Non-sequitars?

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Seen enough death, had two near-deaths, it's just... A tiring inevitability, to me. It may come before I'm "ready", but what is "ready"? Who is "ready"? Hmm.
I feel immortal only when I am far from people.
The only cancer I really don't want is bone cancer. There are some REALLY strong pain meds given for that. (A friend's brother died of it in horrible pain.) Tragically it's a young kid's disease.
Rabies and tetanus are awful, but in this country, you'll be made comfortable. In 3rd world countries...not so much. (Vaccines really are wonder drugs.)
So anyway, if you do drugs...use clean needles. If you drink alcohol, please be like this guy I knew "Old Roy", he drove around with a 5th of Old Grand Dad whiskey all day, but if he saw another car coming he'd stop...even in the middle of the road. Everyone knew to just drive around his old Cadillac....he never got into any accidents or hurt anyone. Once the police chief of a neighboring town drove him home, and the fire chief drove his car home... That was 30-40 years ago... Those days are gone.
