Muji, it could be something simple like confirming some facts. I hope it’s just that. I know how stressful it can be trying to set up everything before you retire. Because of when I retired, I had to wait two months for that first check. It was a good thing I had plenty in savings to cover that time. Hang in there Muji! Soon you will be retired and in Mexico.

With 4 SSI checks coming into my household accounts, I do quite allot of business with the Social Security Administration. They have been Coronanized on levels proportionately larger scales than your classroom difficulties. Televised social work genuinely does suck for all the players involved. Add in the extra work of distributing those stimulus checks and? ? ? It's the new normal and, as your favorite songwriter said, "The problem with normal is it always gets worse."

It literally may be something so small that you'll end up laughing ----- to keep from screaming, okay, but that's how it was with my uncle, who signed up just last year. By the time he got through to someone, they'd sorted the paperwork and he didn't even need to talk to them. HUGS

Well, it turned out that I did have reason to be concerned. I was randomly selected to be investigated for Social Security fraud. I do accept that I was not targeted, I was randomly selected, but the investigation was quite thorough. The phone interview from the investigator in Denver went into lots of detail about my US citizenship (born in Pennsylvania) but that I did elementary school in Mexico and high school in Uruguay.

I had to explain why my dad moved us 13 times as a missionary evangelist, and then why Peru's authorities deported him and my mom for committing fraud at their church. It was ok, I'm used to it since I get pulled aside as customs a lot because now our family name is flagged in immigration computes across Latin America. The authorities are always polite, just checking because they are legally "persona non grata" south of the border for good. All I have to prove is that I'm not them and all is well.

So it was with this investigator. After the brief hassle of being randomly selected for investigation of fraud, once my innocence was established I got the huge benefit of having my application processed right away. It was awesome--he gave me the date my first retirement check will arrive, and for how much (more than I thought).

I know, Loo. Life is basically unfair, I've found. It just is. I try to imagine many times I've sped through a police radar trap and gotten away without getting a speeding ticket, though. There must be ways life's been unfair in my favor, right? Karma?

Still, now I'm pinching myself about how much more my monthly retirement Social Security check turned out to be compared to my estimate in my Mexico budget. . I'm really going to afford Mexico! WOW! I'm on cloud nine.
