Since my husband, who everyone used to turn to for every need (both help and fun), has been diagnosed "they" do not look him in the eye...if they have anything to do with him at all - It has been said by many of them that if it could happen to him, we are all in trouble - "They" are right!
I have no experience on this issue...but...I see very clearly that mental health issues are not charactor flaws
I respect what you are all going through
and yes, I used to work in an office where people BRAGGED about how much of what anti-depressants they took. Since I can;t get dressed without mine, I wasn't impressed with that.... just a fad to them, a life reality to me. I wouldn't play their game...wouldn't discuss anything about my meds... they hated that... I left. some people are just idiots.
I established myself as a very competent and capable person at my current job before I disclosed my PTSD, depression, anxiety..... They then had to look at mental health differently because they knew me, my capabilities, and the depth of my integrity. There are more people in the first and second groups now than there were before. Any little path that I can pave to make it easier for others with PTSD, I will not only pave, I will put the sealent on it and make it as strong as I can so others don't have to walk the path that I have been down. There are people in the world that can't speak out for themselves. I figure that is why I am here and have had the experiences that I have had. I just had to go to hell and back to discover it.
Your right and people don't get why it is important to help others in the same situations either. It usually just scares them. I feel the same way you do.
