Tenure committee, judging work, judging life
mujicaptsd
The wait goes on for my tenure committee to respond to my PTSD plan. It's interesting that they've gone 15 days now without replying at all to someone who admitted to them that he had an anxiety disorder.
It made me feel good today when a DS PTSD friend from here wrote me in a private message saying that "You would get so much more consideration if you were in a wheel chair and the students complained you were not fast enough." Good one. Ha! Accepting that comparison helped me be gentle with myself for how anxious this waiting game has made me with my PTSD.
It's great to have you DS PTSD friends during this wait to remind me that this tenure decision is a big deal, sure, but it's not my life. This committee may be judging my work fairly or they may be judging it unfairly, they're not saying, so I honestly don't know.
But either way, they're judging my work, yes, but they're not judging my life. They don't get to do that. They don't know me like you do. Their rejection will hurt plenty if it comes, it really will. But it won't kill me in the end because I have friends like you. Your DS PTSD support for my life here is greatly appreciated, for real. I appreciate your prayers.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I know your planned future is on this thread of hope. But if it doesn't hold then remember it's not you this time it's them. Part of me wants to agree with some comments of I read as sue them for discrimination, you will win. Especially since you trusted a supervisor's seemingly helpful gesture, to edit your transcript presented. As long as you kept a copy of what you submitted to her and her recording keeping hole of the semester not validated by human relations dept.
A supervisor who had her own bouts of irregular behavior, but you gave her the benefit of professional doubt and integrity o be actually helping you. ) wonder if she wears a fox coat on her days off.. But courts scare the bejeezez out of me.
But that only works to create anxiety not action. I told you MI is hiring... :)
Support. I really wish this works out. But a good plan B? for peace of mind. may occupy the anxiety energy .

I retired from the employment force in 1995. I miss the perks of co-workers, et al, but the review/tenure tales sure make me appreciate my most boring and isolated days a little more.
Think we'll ever invent the perfect system?
No, we're not going to build a perfect system. But we've done better than this for years now. Not just with regard to me, either. This Appalachian college of 3,000 students keeps its doors open with the tuition payments of a student body consisting now of 1/3 African American students. Yet it doesn't have a single African American faculty member. Not one. That's how imperfect its process is: like, totally.
No one is talking about a perfect system, then. One that approximated standards of the late last century would just be a good start. This place is in the 1950s as far as its progress toward a perfect system, not even close to 1995, much less 2016. That's why a senior faculty member like me has to remind himself out loud that they're just trying to judge my work and not let it become about more than that. Their judging process is that antiquated.
Your stduents are *educated* now. THat's the triumph, whatever tenure says or doesn't.
Purrs and prayers continue:-)
Continued support while you ride it out to whatever is next.
