Swarm

Participated in my first swarm capture on Friday. One of our bee hives decided to reduce its own population by swarming just before the fireworks started on the 4th of July. An apiary independence day? Managed to cut them out of the pecan tree they swarmed to and trap them in a trash can, then dump them into a new hive we threw together in a hurry.

The fireworks looked kinda dull after that excitement!!!!!!!!

that is really neat - you won't catch me doing it, but I love to watch bees from the other side of glass!!!

Yeah, I'll BET that was a little more abuzz with excitement than any regular ole fireworks display. Whew!

Oh wow, that sounds fun! I'd much rather do that than fireworks:-)

We have a friend who runs a nature-conscious pest control place and he always keeps a spare hive in his trucks, just in case. Now I know why!

No, Lilly, we did not catch them while they were flying. They swarmed to a branch on a nearby pecan tree. We cut the branch from the tree. Newly swarmed bees are more concerned with clinging to one another than anything else in the world. They are surprisingly easy to handle.

So far, so good. They seem to like their new hive.

    I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying.  I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there.  I think that I will start writing in it again.  It's so therapeutic.
