Seeking Support for Speaking to a Church Jan8 2023


Hi, y'all. I wrote in private messages to a few friends that last night I got a request to speak to a church come Jan 8th of the new year.  I decided that I'm going to talk about my surviving lots and having PTSD.  As you know, I was raised as a missionary kid in a 6 year war overseas, and Dec. 8th was the anniversary of when a military death squad captured me and its officer professionally tortured me, leaving me with at least 3 PTSD flashbacks per day for life.  But I'm still looking for joy in life, and suggesting that for other folks, too, as we usher in the new year.  That last couple of years have been tough with the pandemic.  My best friend of 38 years died of covid on March 13, 2020.  I'm ready for some good clean fun. Believe it or not, it's a crisis for me, so looking for joy in the coming year is a real step forward for me.

You're a great man Muji. I am so sorry that you went through what you did and continue to suffer, but I believe in what you have experience you are in a great place to help others, which is what you do..well. I hope you have a great xmas and an easier new year.

Thanks, y'all. I know I don't have to try to wow the church folks or anything, just convey what we all know about PTSD recovery here. Still, our PTSD is, after all, an anxiety disorder, so my anxiety gets tweaked a bit thinking about getting up in front of people with one of the kind of stories we share here. It's one thing to share such stories here among folks who get it because we've all been there, done that. It's another to do it in a church. They invited me, though, so I'm going to take the approach as best I can to trust them to have me as their guest.

    I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying.  I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there.  I think that I will start writing in it again.  It's so therapeutic.

    Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job.  It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it.  Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown.  There was a full length mirror in the changing room.  I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like.  It was a reality check.
