Pulling my hair out...literally
CecilBGreen
I have realized that I have anxiety all the time. It is running in the background and I think it has been with me so long that I don't notice it sometimes...until it escalates. For weeks now I have been spinning my hair around...always near my front hairline, then ripping it. I don't pull it out one strand at a time, mostly it breaks off though some does come out by the root. I am developing a bald spot. It isn't very big and because I do this right at my hair line it makes for a receding look rather than obvious bald spots.
The other thing I do is rub my lips until I have chapped and calloused skin just above my lip line, then I peel the skin off until it bleeds.
Has anyone had any experience with this and had any success in stopping it? I haven't told my psychiatrist about it. I actually hadn't thought about it because I have done it on and off since I can remember. When I was a very young child I would rub the silky edge of a blanket on my lips.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Then of course, since I'm chronic, the habit returns. But then another shower does the trick again. I think it's the massaging part that's some sort of self-soothing.
Anyway, that's what I'm doing with the issue. Let me know if you find out more.
I have no idea how to stop or how to change it. If you find something that works, let us know!!

Hope you find what works Cecil. You are worth a little tenderness.
I think it is when we can not handle the stress on the inside.
I get that too and I notice it and I hate that. I am thankful every day I get the help I need, but often that very same help triggers me so badly that I recoil.
I know that I have been forced into certain situations for my own good, because it was those situations that caused me to really learn what happened and it caused me to pause and really think about the wrong thought patterns too.
But some of those situations are so very painful, because the good learning phases remind me of the old trauma phases. It is so painful every time I want to throw in the towel, want to say good buy to everyone around me and just live like a hermit for the rest of my life.
Other than that I am pretty good though, hihi.
