I gave blood & urine for tests yesterday and got a couple of urgent phone calls from my doctor today. I've been anemic and I've had a kidney infection for some months, he said. (I've had chronic kidney disease for 3 yrs).
He was surprised I didn't realize how run down I was from iron deficiency. He was surprised that I didn't take more heed of the sweats I was having from the infection. I'll be fine, he's putting me on antibiotics and iron pills.
The reason I'm coming here about it is that my PTSD symptoms make so much daily noise for me with my body that I'm tone deaf to other symptoms some times. Does this happen to anybody else?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I had my psych doc describe it once that the mind/body only accepts so much input than it shuts the barn doors so to speak and does not let anything else in or out.
I was anemic for almost 10 years which was solved 3 years ago by a series of GYN surgeries - that still hurt. I have PTSD and am BiPolar. I ruined both knees running in the Army. Two years ago I had a thyroidectimy for cancer, radiation therapy that has left me with holes in my short term memory and no energy. I have panic attacks that curl me up in the corner screaming for hours at a time.... but 90% of the time the only thing I know is that my back hurts.
Oh, and I guess I also probably have a torn rotator cuff (only have partial use of my right arm) and some broken ribs still... but what I can tell you is how bad the pain in my back is right now, anything else I have to think about first.
for anything to get past the spinal pain, it has to be pretty bad.

Yes, I often don't realize when I'm sick because I feel sick from stress but have to push on all the time.
Yea I have daily migraines so I dunno that much registers beyond that. Somedays I can't sleep and some I can sleep all day. I'm always stressed (both a cuase and a result of daily migraines) and though I am not diagnosed PTSD I am noticing how much those sympotms seem to slip into the mix too. Big fat mixing pot of I'm going bk to bed
It's so easy to do---figure the fatigue is X when it's Y....
Glad your doc caught these things and you will recover:-)
Hugs,

It's so good for me to know I'm not the only one. I was mad at myself for doing it again and going around with a kidney infection. In 2010 when I was a hospital chaplain I just made myself "push on" and ended up with this permanent kidney damage in the first place.
I won't be so mad at myself now that I know all the rest of us with PTSD are always a work in progress on this one. THANK YOU. I feel lousy with infection tonight, but now I'll just embrace the antibiotics and let myself get better.
