I disagree. Some people need a swift kick in the ass to become motivated to go through treatment. He obviously Isn't finding his own way and needs guidance. Do you have a community mental health organization that makes house calls for those who otherwise wouldn't get treatment like your son? We have one here and I am a client because my family referred me to it. I wouldn't have gone to them on my own.

i am 37 and just really beginning to deal with my PTSD for the first time. i was diagnosed 2 years ago, but until now, none of it seemed real. all they drugs they put me on made me crazier and my first therapist was really nice to me but didnt really help. i am also a believer and i trust in HIM for my healing. my family had me committed on a 72 hour psyche evaluation 8 years ago, they are also my abusers but all i did was rebel. i knew what the dr's wanted to hear and i wasnt asking for help, and he deemed me excentric and let me go. until a person is ready to heal, you can not force it. all you can really do is pray and have faith that he will be okay!!! i have just begun to skim the surface on my healing and i think about running from it every day, and this is with a loving husband and daughter cheering me on. i do not think i was mentally ready to handle any of this until now, and what i have actually dealt with is minimal...i have to trust that GOD will give it to me as i can handle. just keep praying, maybe he is just not mature enough to handle it yet!

is he interested in joining this board himself? perhaps he would feel more comfortable here if you left and could interact with people who have similar issues and who may have found solutions that would be useful to him. you can't force god on anyone. you can believe it as thoroughly as you like, that doesn't mean it's the answer for everyone, and if it is not his answer, it will do more harm than good, no matter how you feel it is the only answer, the fact is that it is just not for everyone, and you can do harm if you take this tact.

What Harm are we speaking on???? My belief is enough for myself and ALL my children. They will come to understand this belief on there own, by my Faith they have a better chance of knowing the truth, while they are young.

How can anyone impose harm on there child by having Faith that believes in there Best, Loves even in there worse and Reminds that there is another way of Hope than Hopelessness.

At his age and the other Adult children, they listen with open ears and open-mind. The desicion is always theres. We as parents of Faith need to offer it Without having any Fear at ALL.

Monkey...I am trying hard to understand...was it that your family was severely tied up in religion and so abusive that makes you associate the two?
I really can understand your trigger/flinching..when I think of male gym teachers/coaches/dance teachers/youth coordinaters....my mind flinches and I get all triggery...I immediately think "PEDO"....is this what you are experiencing...Just asking b/c am trying to understand.

I have a strong faith as well, but 51% is correct that it can be a crutch for many. Not that a crutch is bad, but when you hide behind that crutch it is denial and not productive.

Hold onto your faith. During the darkness of ptsd, when you cry out you have to believe that a God of goodness is listening and cares.

justine, it's not anything like that, though i was raised catholic, and went to catholic school, and it was horrific. but that is not at the heart of what might be called my over reactive response to these things. i am sensitive about those in a weakened state being sold what i see as a harmful lie that will keep them from real healing and productivity. it is like taking advantage of a naive child because they are vulnerable and desperately desire to be loved. that is how i see it. adults can do as they will, i do hold them in contempt, but they can do as they will. but when children are fed this before they are able to rationally process it, i consider it brainwashing. and when people who are vulnerable are fed it and take it because they are desperate, i feel about it the way most people feel when someone is taken in by a blatantly insane and abusive cult.
