O.k. I'm just going to vent!! I have listened to a lot of people on this site and have researched things like disasociatione, compartmentalization etc. and now I am so pissed that I went screw-up for over 20 years even if i WAS not labeled with ptsd, someone should have helped me. Sorry just so emotionally pissed, felt like I needed to share.

I often wonder why it took so long to figure out the problems. But, it does ease my mind to know. The bad times are still bad but tolerable since I can tell myself it is just the mental health issues and what I am feeling is not real.

I can get resentful as well. When I am able to look at it reasonably though, I first have to see that I did not always give all the information necessary to make an accurate diagnosis, I was dishonest. Also, I have to remember that people makes mistakes. Even doctors make mistakes. It is as unfair of me to expect perfection as it was unfair that I was misdiagnosed so often. No matter what happened in my own past, I have to bring myself into today and the information I have today is what I can work with. I hope you are feeling better soon. When I experience extreme emotions I am much more susceptible to increased symptoms and I do not want to be the cause of my own suffering today. God Bless and care for you.

I'm with you! right now I 'm just feeling like what's the point. I have finally found a Dr. who I trust and can talk to, but I'm 52 and dealing with cancer. So why bother. Sorry, It's a bad day. Hang in there, Sean. You are a great person and deserve the best. Hugs! Aurenna

Thanks guys and gals for your comments. I understand that I was not forthcoming with info with docs because I was afraid I was crazy. Also I could not articulate what was going on in my head. But there are some things that came out that should have been red flags. Instead I was told "Stop manipulating people and move on.) What's up with that. God Bless, Sean

yes many of us can relate. one has to remember that PTSD other than for military hasn't really been a major diagnosis until more recently ... which it should have been .... it is often just clumped with anxiety/depressive disorders and even for me i'm not sure how one really makes the distinction if you don't have flashbacks. the other thing is there really aren't very many treatment options for it ... the therapies and EMDR and meds have not had great success rates .... also doctors really don't know how the brain really works and how most meds really work ... so its trial and error ... they finally gave me the PSTD diagnosis when i was treatment resistant to all the meds and had 24 sessions of electroshock therapy that didn't help .... i don't really care what the diagnosis is unless it helps pin-point therapies that might work and makes me not a guinea pig ... even after my diagnosis still haven't found anything that works but gives me tiny bit of hope ... i personally recommend the books of peter levine and carrotofhope.org .... im less mad than sad that i've missed 20 vital years of my life and still don't feel much closer to solving it ... hey but at least now you know what you're dealing with so things can make a little more sense. btw, i'm very articulate with the docs and very honest about my background and psycology savvy but didn't help them figure it out any sooner .... also its only recently that new technology that helps docs see how the brain functions were created and from that they saw differences in people with PTSD which has finally started them doing studies .... its amazing how behind the times they are for something that has been around forever!
