As far as calendars I don’t know if it’s considered a calendar but I used to read the farmer almanacs to read about the different full moons. My current calendar is all beaches & beach sides cause it reminds me of Puerto Rico.

Human history has created far more lunar calendars than solar calendars. Personally, I enjoy the lunar calendars, but I also enjoy the irony that the moon and sun don't agree with one another. Kinda like politicians?

arfie, yeah, you're right that it isn't New Year's Day everywhere. Here in Mayan country they have that calendar I'm sure you've seen, the round stone one they sell tourists images of on t-shirts and stuff. It's a real calendar, though, that at the time of Columbus's voyages here was more accurate than the European calendar because of leap year.

I was greatly humored by the media blitz over the end of the Mayan calendar in December, 2012. The Doomsayers took it as a prophecy that the world would end with the last day on that very tablet. I took it as a prophecy that the Mayan decedents would be bright enough to start the next tablet.

Prophecy fulfilled. The Mayans had quite allot of treasures worthy of further development. On some of my more pagan days, I believe Quetzalcoatl is my Spirit Guide.

My view of the Mayan calendar was the guy didn't get a big enough stone. Si he ran out of r00m after 2012.
