LOL, Arfie, and knew that if someone said "Turn here!" you sghould use your eyes to be sure there was not a tree in the way!

alas, gps hasn't changed that necessity, a bit. the gps won't alert you to small children or pets in the way, either, though it's been a while since my gps has suggested i turn the wrong way down a freeway access road.

speaking of which, when the first gps systems hit the german market, the locals were highly upset at the use of a female voice for the system. rather than reprogramming the entire system in a male voice, they released another version with only one-size-fits-all set of directions with the same female voice. "you are not lost, dear. you do not need directions."

my hubby special ordered one of those gps systems. i quit letting him drive shortly after that. sigh. . . you can always tell an old german. you just can't tell him much.

some of us memorized phone numbers. i took my old world programming mentors to heart and never memorized anything i could look up. i carried an address book with all my pertinent numbers in it. these days i tend to boycott websites that force passwords on me. i don't go into real time stores that require an ID in order to window shop, either.

Back when people were smarter than phones conversation was held in the house rather than texting from the back to have someone in the front do you a favor. I mean really?!

i gots to admit that that feature has been downright handy here on the farm, precious. it cuts down on the searches through the back 40 acres to ask where they left this, that or the next thing. my 7 year old foster daughter has a bestie whose family hangs out in the back of their house where they can't hear knocks on the front door. sending them a text to let them know we have arrived is their version of a doorbell.

settling our conflicts through text spatting cuts down immeasurable on the tit for tat volleys between hubs and i. the need to type out my clever comebacks puts a little extra think time between the brain and the tongue.
