Open Discussion - Independence

My social anxiety has been huffing its puffs with extra intensity this week. After months of semi-aimless wandering, I am trying to establish myself in a fixed location and experiencing the fits and sputters I believe are a natural part of that process. Good ol' Catch 22. Ya can't get article A without article B. You can't get article B until you have article A. Who made up these freaking rules, anyway? Geez. . . No wonder I don't like people. Can I go be a lone wolf now?
I found a resonating chew in the daily meditation reader, "Living Today in Alateen." Thought I'd share.
Begin quote.
"When I first came to Alateen, I thought of myself as very independent. I didn't need anyone. I could deal with my problems by myself -- thank you very much. As I started understanding the reality of my life, I realized I was in denial about allot of issues. I hadn't been dealing with my problems. Avoiding them was my idea of dealing with them.
"With the help of friends in my group, I've begun to really solve some of my difficulties. It helped me to talk with people and get feedback about what part of the problem was mine to change. Today I can handle some things by myself, but I never would have reached this point without my group.
"All of us need other people. I need the group, and my group needs me. No one is strong enough to deal with everything. The sooner I let someone into my life, the easier things have become."
End quote.
I'm not real sure why this resonates with me. Perhaps the gentle reminder of why to keep trying on the social end of establishing myself locally? Chew chew. . . Clear answers aren't the goal of my own meditations. Just keeping myself open to the possibilities.
Open discussion. Thoughts of any stripe welcome. Whatever resonates in your own strictly personals.

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

This passage resonated with me: "We need to be truthful with ourselves as we continue to review our attitudes and actions each day. This allows us to be humble enough to reach out to others as equals, and to continue to grow in every area of our lives." Fear guards my mouth and my behaviors with others...I lack acceptance of myself, therefore I don't trust people. I Thank God and the many years of therapy I no longer in that place, however self protection continue today. I do have new ways to communicate and to behave so I'm more authentic and open to what people in my life, my beloved friends, say in my interests...
however I continue to lack trust, and still look behind the meaning of 'kindness" and ask why/what is this person expecting me to do in return...my wall goes used to go up when people with kind intentions want to help me. I feel weak, and undeserving which I continue to work on...not thinking I have to be to do everything myself...I've learned how to create healthy boundaries, rather than the codependent 'give until you drop' seeking out what was never given to me, by helping others.
Now I can say no, I can say "you could be right", not agreeing, yet stops arguments in the track, or I can walk away from fighting when I feel like I'm going to loose "the it" of my feelings or behavior. I just want to live my life in peace, calm and work to do activities like prayer, meditation, gardening, the water to seek that inner peace along with my DBT and exposing my weakness and asking for help...I get that now, through feeling accepted, mainly I Accept Myself and the strength to open myself by living with love and not fear to guide my actions.
I've never been in any type of trauma therapy though
I would really have to push myself to get out of this rut and I don't know that I have it in me
I am starting group therapy in 2 weeks so I will see what that is like. I have done Alanon, but that isn't group therapy. I did find it helpful though
