Well, hello. Never really thought I'd be going here because I thought it was mostly for the military. Today was my first real visit with my TeleShrink. Guess it makes sense, right? Right there in the name. Trauma. hmm, yeah I've had a lot of trauma and somehow everything I've stuffed for the last 61 years is flooding out like a crack in the Hoover Dam and I'm crying and freaking out from weird things: loud noises, lots of stuff way not ready to talk about. Would love it if anybody responds and let me know how this works. Thanks and hope to talk to you soon.

Welcome from me, too, countingmyblessings. It looks like you're 61 years old, if I read you right, and if so that makes us peers in age since I'm 63. I do get what you mean about how things can come flooding back. That's the good thing about this group, folks get. it. Glad you found us.

Hi. I'm new here and saw your post.
I've lived with PTSD for a very long time. I'm near 60, myself.
I want to give you a big hug..actually to all who I've read your posts here.
I've found sharing with others who experience similar is very helpful. Looking forward to getting to know you ( and others) to give and get support. Big hugs.. Sunny

i am an army veteran who carried her mental illness into the army with her in the mid 70's when combat PTSD was still being called, "shell shock." i started my psychotherapy during my 3 year army tour and continued through the VA. not one of my fellow veterans ever questioned my place in their healing circles. as one of them put it, "a gunshot is a gunshot whether it is fired on a battlefield or a civilian living room."

Welcome:-) My Hoover dam gave way at age 43, much as you described yours, so you are not alone! I still can have days where I go through the ceiling if the cat meows ---- hypervigilant much?! ---- but with time, therapy (specific to PTSD) and DSPTSD, I have made more progress than I think I realize. Puma purrs of welcome.

Thanks to everybody. Nice to see so much positivity. Well, I feel kinda tenuously hopeful as tomorrow I talk to the shrink again. He told me to name the books on the proverbial shelf. seems like so much of my early years were just one trauma after another. It's gonna be a really crowded bookcase.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
