Just curious if anyone else has this symptom. My PTSD flashbacks come more often and more strongly when I'm tired. So when I'm tired I try to take a nap, but then naps are the time when I'll lie down and have either a flashback or a nightmare about when I was tortured years ago.
Just had flashbacks while trying to rest with a nap. My PTSD flashbacks cause me to hyperventilate, feel chills in my body, and make me need to get up and urinate because they literally scare the pee out of me. When I was tortured when captured by the military overseas years ago, I peed myself and my torturer laughed at me. That's what just happened to me, I tried to take a nap, had that flashback, and had to get up and pee out of fear. It happens to me a few times a week.
I'm trying to pace myself with naps, but I wondered if anybody else was a little nap averse at any time because that's exactly when a PTSD flashback will break through. Not from torture PTSD alone like mine, but related to any kind of PTSD they may have gotten from any kind of trauma. Does it happen to anyone else precisely when they try to prevent flashbacks by stopping to get rest? It's frustrating because it's allowing a symptom in exactly when I'm trying to be wise with self care to manage my symptoms, ironically.
Anybody?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Wish I could wave a wand and fix this for us all.
Hugs,
Leo
As for the frustration of symptoms kicking in despite my most careful maintenance... Compost happens. The impressive part is that you caught it and did something about it.
Some argue that flashbacks are misunderstood part of healing?
Arfie mentioned how "flashbacks" was originally a literary technique, too, which led me to remember writer Kurt Vonnegut, who had combat PTSD from WWII, called the process of a flashback "leaking." Sometimes thats what its like for me, too. Like a slow leak, seeping through to the present.
Thanks, everybody. Somebody ought to start a thread on all the different names we can think of for the different flashback experiences we know.
