Worked all weekend, kidney disease from former PTSD meds tiring me, so not in mood for a crappy day, but had one. Tues teaching schedule is 3 double periods back to back at the community college, so it's surprising my first crappy day all semester was now in April.
First double period started with a cellphone meltdown: had a student on the front row who would NOT stop texting on his cell phone 20 mins into the class. When I stopped him, he got abusive. Nice. He's a scholarship student on the baseball team, so his coach got an email from me about teaching him I'm the umpire in my classroom.
Second double period sucked: a careful lesson plan I had on Spanish art couldn't be shown because our classroom's audio-visual/computer technology broke down. Resorted to using the blackboard and chalk to explain Picasso. You can imagine how abstract THAT got.
Third double period bit the big one: the testing center messed up the roster for these students to take a test outside of class, so I pulled off a save and gave it in class..
I didn't run over anyone's dog on the way home, and my computer's not crashing as I post this, so I think my crappy day's over with. But am I ever TIRED from improvising my way out of one mess after another I didn't create. STRESSful. I love my job and love that I can work, but I still have days like this one. My PTSD symptoms are all over the place.
Ever had a day where everything you planned went wrong in front of groups of people over and over?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
yeah, sometimes stuff starts going downhill and it just slides and slides, until the best thing you can do is write it off completely and rest assured that tomorrow will not be today.
big hugs amigo. i say treat yourself extra good tonight. maybe an extra dessert or movie you've been wanting to watch?
And I WILL treat myself to something extra kewl this evening, like you say. Gracias, amigos!
I would have loved to see that chalk Picasso :-)
So sorry, Muji. Hope you're somewhere dry, now, and ... drying off, warming up, regaining some energy, and taking pride in the fact that ... whether it was pretty or not ... YOU got through it !!
Great improvising, by the way. Yet another lesson in choosing your RESPONSE, DESPITE your reaction :-)
" blackboard and chalk to explain Picasso."
this is better done on notebook paper and scissors, rearange the pieces by importance...Picasso.
The save was awsome, and the computer loves you tonight.
Yay Wednesday, rest, my friend.
J.
Glad you survived. On behalf of the neighborhood dogs, I thank you for not letting it get any worse. Glad your computer let you vent it here.
Gentle hopes for restorative rest tonight.
David, response v reaction, that thing you posted about earlier this week that I liked. Yes! Jewells, Picasso collaging? Cubism with scissors. Hmmm. Arfie, venting here does work and I'm ready for restorative rest indeed.
I'm so lucky to be part of DS PTSD. All the best to everybody, all the very best. Thank you.
Biggest cell phone excuse recently? "I was texting my Mom," or, "I was checking the time."
Just yesterday, my dongle wasn't working. (Hee-hee.) It totally sucks the wind out of your sails when you are all set up to show a video clip and it flops and it's not your fault.
Technology does NOT make things easier.
At least there was chalk. At least you weren't being observed by a superior. At least the coach supported you!
I think it was a hugely successful day for you and shows your resourcefulness and professionalism. But those of us with PTSD, when it's happening, you just want to run and/or explode...
Next year will be my 1/2 way point in my teaching career. I really wonder what's in the cards for the 1/2 half.
I'm really in the mood to be a stay at home mom at this point.
